Amazon and Taxes

I saw this today on Yahoo's newsfeed. I found it quite interesting, thought you all might enjoy it as well since most of us get stuff off of Amazon. Also, what do you all think about the possibility of same-day delivery in some states.

That is good thinking by Amazon. If you are forced to collect taxes anyway there is no reason not to have a local warehouse to get stuff to folks fast. By applying the old 80/20 rule, I am sure they will target the large population centers & their most popular products so it will appear to most folks that their shipping is nearly always overnight or within a couple of days. On a personal note, I used to order corporate equipment from a major electronics company only because I knew that they often drop shipped from a warehouse in my city. It wasn't 100% but it sure was nice to basically get overnight delivery for ground rates. Of course they never knew that was why I bought from them and so when they switched drop shippers, they lost my business.
