A while ago, I finished the TMF one time through fully, referenced it multiple times, and am currently going back through a full re-read.
I've gained some massive insights from this book, and the biggest takeaway of all was that of chasing needs and coloring that value into people's lives. I used to start businesses to make money, and this was really foolish, it never worked, and the businesses didn't seek to contribute much of anything.
Thankfully, I vowed to never start businesses solely focused on money, but to genuinely contribute to people's lives in the areas I saw pain points and needs, and what I had a true passion and a big WHY around. Now I start by looking for what people are struggling with, and where my skills and mindset apply best to help them. People vote with their dollar, and if you're helping them they will vote for you and your business.
I recently created this article and video, on my friend Aaron's website, in a cool location by the beach overseas. This travel wouldn't have been even possible if I had not had these mindsets instilled, and I'm very grateful for that!
MJ, this is inspired a lot by you buddy, and there are some specific lessons that your book taught me, that I've highlighted.
Going forward, my aim is to repeat these mindsets to other young entrepreneurs that are looking to get the new Benz, and big house, etc. Their attitude and results just need a bit of tweaking, like mine did! They will leave far more impact with magnitude and scale than they will with selfish motives.
Charlie Munger speaks on cognitive biases of the mind that we all fall under, and one of the biggest ones is the reward / loss bias, where we focus mainly on what we want the most. We've got to step out of this and look outward first!
