My biggest gripe about the debate is the assumption of extreme outcomes as an *end state*.
As far as I can tell there has always been a perpetual balancing act between problem and solution.
Good and bad both take place.
Sometimes terribly bad things happen. Sometimes incredibly good things happen. And they co-occur. And they will co-occur with AI too.
To say the bad will overtake and 'end' something is to assume there is no process of adjustment in play.
That the dynamism between problems and solutions somehow stops, and the new problem is somehow unsolvable.
We've survived catastrophic floods. Asteroid hits. Problems significantly more challenging than chatbots. We'll survive AI too. Some people will use it to create new weapons. Some people will use the same tool to counter the new weapons. The playing field will change. But the game won't stop.
