Hello everyone!
My name is Kyle. I'm in my thirties and live in Alberta, Canada. I have a lot of schooling in my past (Education, some Computer Science, and now I've almost finished an Accounting degree). I'm a fairly well-read and knowledgeable guy, but haven't had much career success.
In 2024 I decided to go back to school for Accounting and I recently found an accounting job in March that I've been working at. Over this last year though I've been reading a lot and one business book that was recommended to me was The Millionaire Fastlane . It really spoke to me and opened my eyes about my future. Although I've tried to put away a little bit of money since getting the new accounting job, I'm realizing that the only way I can become a millionaire at this rate is the "slow lane" method.
I've started to get more into entrepreneurship over the last year. I did a course through my school in January, but the idea I developed was a bookkeeping/accounting idea. The problem with that though is that it doesn't satisfy what MJ DeMarco said about scalability. It's kind of like a barber shop or a bakery. Yes, you can make money, but the only way to make a lot of money is to impact a ton of people. Instead I want to develop something that can impact millions potentially.
So over the last month or so I've been developing an app. I don't want to give away too much about it, but it's kind of an activity app that gets people out in their city exploring things. I'm looking to surround myself with other people who are entrepreneurial and can guide me in the right direction and be a good sounding board for ideas. Particularly marketing is a bit of a black-box for me, as I've taken one marketing course and recently read a really interesting book called Trust Me, I'm Lying by Ryan Holiday, but otherwise I'm kind of stuck on how to market my idea.

Edit: Just to give a bit more information about my business idea: think "video game achievements in real life". Basically a person would gain points for visiting certain things in their town like famous locations or even just interesting buildings or parks. They might gain 300 points for taking a selfie at a statue, or something like that. Basically it is a gamified way of getting people out in the world. Think about in 2016 when everyone was playing Pokemon Go. I want something that gets people out doing things. There are a couple ways of monetizing it: I've built in a premium membership where people can create their own missions, as well as a way for restaurants and businesses to pay money to create a sponsored mission. I'm also not opposed to building in a shop that would sell physical items to people like shirts and medals and things.
The actual app is maybe 1/3 of the way done. I think I should be done by the end of the summer for sure, and I was going to start with going local and then working my way to the other big city in my province, the rest of Canada, and then eventually the world. My hope is that I could at least make enough money on the app to replace one of my part-time jobs (I work at a deli as well as my accounting job).
