It’s the sugar. It’s in everything to sell food better. And there’s also the personal responsibility thing too.
You can cut out ANY kind of “bad” or “junk” food you want, and still get really, really fat if you eat (and/or drink) too many calories. (Insert unit of measurement for energy)

Whilst this is technically true, the reality is different. You can stuff your face with whole foods and it's pretty hard to get anywhere near to obese (see obesity rates just 50 years ago).

The main issue is that foods are engineered to be as palatable and addictive as possible. You eat the frankenfood from the package, and instead of being full, you want more. With real food, there are satiation mechanisms because your body is actually getting nutritional value.

@PureA just said the same thing in a different way but I did like this explanation I saw a while ago and it’s specifically related to sugar

Try to find something in nature with a lot of sugar

God put the poison with the cure

All high sugar foods are high fibre as well

I mean look at sugar cane, it’s literally a stick

So if you stuck to natural foods like fruit it would be impossible to consume too much sugar

But you can buy a 2 litre bottle of sugar water for $1 and drink the whole thing in an hour then do it again and again if you really wanted to

Also apparently McDonald’s and all these frozen and processed foods have all the fibre removed because it helps them last forever and freeze, so that’s how come you can consume so many calories of McDonald’s or frozen foods, there’s no fibre to fill you up

Good points. I just mean, you should not expect to eat with impunity if you have never tracked, counted, or otherwise paid attention to your eating if you are overweight and your goal is to get fit. Right? This is common sense to me.

"What gets measured, gets managed."

The "just eat natural food" strategy almost always seems to fail from what I have seen, unless the person is already experienced with fitness and nutrition. You've gotta learn the basics, start counting, know why stuff works.

Damn you guys are getting ads that look like that?

The ads are likely based on prior browsing histories elsewhere on the web.

It's probably retargeting, so don't act surprised.. We all know where you caught those cookies..

Yes, it's probably just retargeting.

If you're looking anime porn, I'm sure your ads will be like that.

I periodically access the forum logged out to see what ads display for me -- there is no porn because I'm not surfing porn.

I remember MJ being surprised at how bad the site looks with ads visible... this might be another surprise to him actually.

This was actually when I had Google "Auto-Ads" active. It was horrendous. I had it live only for a few days.

That’s so weird, I don’t watch any type of porn, anime, hentai, r34. None of that bullshit..

I hope Sound of Freedom beats the latest "Indiana Jones" movie in raw box office numbers. It's already going to blow past The Flash.

I hope those sickos at Hollywood get absolutely destroyed.

Well another factor that definitely comes into play is the forum is 90% men ... that alone is target rich for porn, even if you aren't searching for it...

People who say they have “time blindness” deserve starvation.

I can’t believe they are making being late into a new victomhood.

In today's "things I didn't know" I found this regarding a pair of conjoined twins from the 19th century... absolutely fascinating, especially when you consider the state of medicine at the time. Via Bard...

Chang and Eng Bunker were born in Siam (now Thailand) on May 11, 1811. They were joined at the chest by a band of flesh that was about four inches wide. They had separate brains, hearts, and lungs, but they shared a liver.

Chang and Eng's parents were poor farmers, and they soon realized that their sons could be a source of income. In 1829, they took Chang and Eng to the United States to be exhibited as curiosities. The twins were an immediate sensation, and they toured with freak shows for most of their lives.

In 1843, Chang and Eng married a pair of sisters, Adelaide and Sarah Yates. The twins and their wives settled in Mount Airy, North Carolina, and they bought a farm. They became naturalized citizens, and they had a total of 21 children.

Chang and Eng lived to be 62 years old. They died on the same day, January 17, 1874. Their deaths were caused by a stroke that Chang suffered. Eng died of a heart attack shortly after Chang passed away.

Chang and Eng Bunker were unique in many ways. They were the only Siamese twins known to have married and had children. They were also the only Siamese twins to live to be more than 60 years old.

Chang and Eng's story is a remarkable one. They defied the odds and lived long and happy lives. They were also pioneers in the fight for the rights of people with disabilities. They showed the world that people with differences can live full and productive lives.

Here are some additional facts about Chang and Eng Bunker:

  • They were born with Chinese ancestry.
  • Their names, Chang and Eng, mean "left" and "right" in Chinese.
  • They were the first conjoined twins to be described in medical literature.
  • They were the subject of many scientific studies.
  • They were very popular public figures.
  • They were wealthy and successful.
  • They were respected members of their community.
  • They are remembered as pioneers in the fight for the rights of people with disabilities.

This is a terrible website design. You have to scroll down to see the image thumbnails, then scroll back up to see the full-size photo. This is like the third website I've encountered with the same lame image-gallery widget. Their site.

It's amazing how much Twitter users love content focused on Twitter. Doesn't matter the community. Has to be the most meta-oriented group of people ever.

Very cool place to grow a personal brand.

Im from Massapequa Park originally. Great place to grow up in the 90s. A few blocks away from this a**hole in the news. They said the got his DNA in 2023 from a discarded pizza and matched it with 2010 DNA. Many people think he didnt act alone and theres some government officials involved in this prostitute murder sex scandal. Wouldnt surprise me at all.

I saw a news report that they knew back in 2010 that he lived in Massapequa Park (pop 17k), probably worked in Manhattan, was 6'4+, and drove a Chevy Avalanche - but the Chief of Police interfered in the investigation because he thought they were investigating *him*, and later he did go to jail on a separate issue. After the chief of police and DA went to jail, new investigators came in, looked at the evidence from 2010, and solved the case in a few weeks. So this guy possibly ran free for another 13 years because the police chief was a violent pervert.

Here it is:

I missed this the first time I watched the report, but apparently "internet sleuths" used Google Maps to find the guy's truck back in 2011:

Quick thought on cold calling - you can call a lead more than once.

I was just listening to a podcast on software sales and this guy mentioned that he'd call some prospects six times before getting them to agree to a sales consultation. He mentioned leaving 4 voice mails before (he didn't ignore hard no's or anything).

So if you've ever thought that you've exhausted your prospect list, try contacting the list again.

Yea looks pretty good, Cillian Murphy and Christopher Nolan are A-game performers.
Chris Stuckmann calls it "Fantastic", and predicts Oscars nods for Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. His only complaint is that 25% of the dialogue is hard to understand, apparently a common problem in Nolan films. He thinks some people wont be able to handle a dialogue-heavy film that is 3-hours long. Spoiler-free review:

I just went to my local gym for the first time after just going with my cousin.

I was doing my own thing and then I see in the mirror a buff guy come up to me (I mean double or triple my size) and he’s like “yo here’s a better way to do that” I legit thought I was going to get jumped:blank:
