I'm pretty simple. I'm not motivated by flashy cars or the coolest new toy.

All I want is to be able to go wherever I please and sustain myself remotely with a high standard of living, while maintaining a modest home "base". I want to volunteer abroad with money being of little to no concern, etc

To raise my kid into not being an a**hole and teach him that if you work hard and smart, you can control your own destiny and live a free and fulfilling life.

I flew in the back seat of an L-39 few times; it flies really nice but dude, you need something much more powerful (= expensive) ;)

I figure everyone says freedom is their Lambo (and for good reason), so I'll just say ditto for that part. I'm getting pretty close to the point of not needing to work so now I'm looking to some of the things in life which will make it even more enjoyable.

Not sure about you guys, but I HATE flying.

Not because I am fearful or get sick while in the air, but I despise the utter lack of compassion received from the a$$ clowns at the airport. (One of my favorite t-shirts has a cute picture of a guy getting a pat down with the slogan, "It's not gay if it's TSA.") Even if you travel first class (which is amazing, btw) you still have to pack your bags in compliance with ridiculous FAA rules and head to the airport (which is an hour away for me) early enough to arrive an hour or two before your flight. You have to share your personal space with some questionable characters who may or may not have taken a shower that day. Your bags will hopefully arrive relatively unscathed at your destination at the same time as you. The trip around the airport is strenuous enough for your daily exercise.

It just plain sucks.

So my Lambo is a plane.

I thought about a Piper M500 or M600, but they only have a 260/270 kt max cruise. I say only because the soon-to-be-delivered Epic e1000 has an impressive 325 kt cruise and a whopping 34,000' ceiling! That's globe trotting capacity right there!

I don't have any single high-ticket Item I'm working for.

I work the way I do to achieve 2 things singlehandedly worth more than an aircraft carrier filled with lambos and staffed with young 20-something models armed with champagne and an adventurous personality.

Freedom and Health.

The ability to wake up at 4:30 and read not to escape the thumb of a corporate job, but to read to improve where I'm at and how I'm providing value in this life.

The ability to grab a cup of coffee and go sit out on my porch and listen to Scott Adam's daily periscope any day of the week, potentially with a book in hand; soaking in the fresh morning air and looking at all the beauty in front of me.
Sitting safe in the knowledge that I don't have to pass through managerial buzz-cuts and suffer bureaucracy daily to eek out a living in the script.

I might go to a foreign country, I might be brushing up on whiskey aging techniques, or I could even go and get fitted for a suit; not a single one of those experiences will be as rewarding as the first day I take my freedom back.

My 2.7 year old son is severely Autistic and completely non-verbal.
My income, while high, is crippled by what it costs to send him to a special preschool and specialists so he can have a chance. The government doesn't consider this on my taxes, so they rape me like I have a ton of disposable income. Insurance doesn't cover "tuition" or specialists for autistic children.
My lambo is being able to survive and pay my mortgage while giving my son a real chance at being independent.

I’m not super interested in cars (though owning a lambo or Ferrari for weekends and date nights wouldn’t be terrible) - it’s always been about freedom.

Customers pissing you off? Cool, book a trip to an island because you can, and come back and see that you still made money.

Or as an investor, no customers at all. Even better.

Having money is great, but not if you have zero time with your kids. My dad always made great money as a business owner but I was so sad because I often couldn’t spend time with him. Some people have it even worse - my dad still managed to go to sports games and occasional trips. But the freedom is so great!

pizza delivered to you in 5 mins or it's free

Unless you charge $$$ for someone microwaving pizza pockets, I can’t imagine how. But yeah, what a value skew if teleportation became real. Why stop at pizza? Moving countries in 5 min, moving planets in 10. Mars, Elon, let’s go!!!

Tai Lopez gave a talk where he said peoples 4 main reasons to becoming rich are:

Money/material gain (Lambos, Yachts, Mansions)
Mating/better romantic partners (that dream girl/guy you've always wanted to date)
Mastery/Status (fame)
Momentum/Freedom (being able to do what you want when you want)

he said the way to test which is your main motivation is to
see which one of those makes you the most jealous when
you see another person with them

My motivational Lambo?

To move to me and my family to a 1st world country again (primarily USA), I've had enough of 3rd world problems...
Secondly, to give my family a Fastlane lifestyle in the States, for me it would be like achieving heaven on earth...

I see hitting the Fastlane as the best and most long-term way to achieve this dream.

It's not cars, mansions, women, or partying I'm looking forward to; for me, THIS IS the financial freedom we talk so much about here

I've put this in off topic as it is more dreamer than progress but thought it would be fun to know peoples reasons for going into business/wanting to make a decent amount of money. MJ spoke about wanting to be the driver of his own lambo. Some want freedom or time with your kids. Mine, I want to emigrate with my family to the U.S. and unless you go the marriage route (which i doubt my wife would appreciate ha!) or have a degree(NOPE!) the only other way is to have money/business assets. That's what keeps my flame burning bright. How about you?

I just wanted to say thanks for reminding me to be grateful that I am here in the US. It's a much-needed reminder that there is always someone who would love to have the things you take for granted! I actually lived in Scotland until 3 years ago and I miss the stunning views, great hiking, lovely people, and short/cheap flights to everywhere in Europe! So there's a little grass-is-greenerism. Enjoy the things I miss and can't wait to hear news about your family emigrating ;)

I want to learn French and Japanese. I just want to know them, for myself and for knowledge's sake. Yet I have no time to put the study into it with my stupid corporate job (and now pouring all extra time in to entrepreneurship.)

If I may...you should check out Michel Thomas's language learning systems. I'm not sure if they've got Japanese but they definitely have French, and you could listen while you commute. Nothing but listening required! I used to use them to learn languages while I worked. Then once you have spare time, you can just use it to practice!

Two questions @MJ DeMarco when you made your money did you do any of this (like pay off parents house etc)

Yes, paid my mother's mortgage off.

Also, how’s the buying process coming with your cabin?

I've been looking. Just spent nearly a week in Sedona looking for places, or at least, a plot of land.

Honestly, I found my 'Lambo' reading a Dave Ramsey book (sorry MJ)

No worries. D. Ramsey has some great tips and points, not all of it is "Slowlane."

Because all the things I own, own me.

I'd agree with the general sentiment except most people (if not pretty much everyone) needs something to do. If you live in a house with a backyard, work around the house gives you something to do. Even if you sometimes grumble about it, you probably feel good after taking care of it. It's certainly better for you than watching TV.

I'd much rather be this retired old guy spending eight hours tending his plants and doing work around the house than being "free" from all of the things and not having anything productive to do.

I don't mean that you should buy as many things as possible just to have something to do; I mean that as long as you're buying things you love, taking care of them should still make you feel good at least occasionally and generate a positive return when it comes to your well-being.

I don't care that much about cars, so I wouldn't be happy if I had to spend several hours a week taking care of my car just to keep it pristine. But I like spending time outside, so tending a big garden wouldn't be such a chore for me. I'd probably complain every now and then, but overall owning it (and it owning me) would still make me happier than not owning it and being stuck in a small rental apartment.

Hi everyone, just joined the forum after reading the Fastlane Millionaire.

My lambo is having a location independent business. I am a travel addict and my dream is to have a prosperous online venture, that I could run while travelling the world. That's it, at least before I'll turn 30.

I'm aiming at earning a decent income, that could allow me to maintain the lifestyle I dream about while saving a good chunk of it. However, I am lucky enough to not be motivated by purely materialistic motives. I just don't buy the idea that the mansion with swimming pool, luxury car and golden Rolex could make me happy.

  1. Pay my f*cking student loans off. lol
  2. Start the next business in a better position.
    1. Beat Elon to Mars?? ;)
  3. Become more useful and helpful to other entrepreneurs, both here and wherever, especially my 3 children. My 10 year old has a pretty strong entrepreneurial drive. I took her out door to door selling slime and she made $100 on pure cuteness. She's done this on her own a few times since. Now she wants to be a youtuber.
  4. Start a non-profit — I've always had a soft spot for the homeless as there have been times when I've felt that could easily be me. I'd like to create a tiny home community that is also a farmer's market. Homeless people get tiny homes with lawn care and maid service. In exchange they get a backyard and training on how to grow a particular crop. The tiny house community would be designed so that all the backyards face a place where people can drive up and buy produce. The homes, services, and training are free and in exchange the community gets fresh produce. I don't know if it would fly, but if it doesn't, I'd want to help the homeless get on their feet in some other way.
  5. Buy apartments
  6. Travel the world to buy and sell property while also learning history
  7. While traveling, I'd write a novel.
  8. Lease or maybe own an electric car—I like the design of the Fisker E-Motion.View attachment 18568
  9. Hire a personal trainer
  10. Learn the guitar and the piano, get voice lessons. I'd write some songs and perform. I like James Taylor, Jack Johnson style music.
  11. Get a bigger place with some nice amenities. I've never had a pool, so that would be nice.
  12. Start caring about nice clothes? lol

Now that's what I'm talking about!

I haven't spoken to too many about my pie in the sky, but it's lofty.

When I first started down this path, after reading TMF and TR's Awaken the Giant Within, I fleshed out all of my materialistic goals. While I do still want a private island with a landing strip in addition to a 100ft yacht with a helipad and room to park my Pagani safely onboard, I have evolved since then. Things that can be bought with money are losing more and more value as I travel down this path.

It was about 3 years ago that I started having some health issues, primarily related to poor diet, lack of exercise, and sitting in front of a computer for 12-18 hours a day, 7 days a week. I have since rectified my poor habits and have "seemingly" undone a lot of the self inflicted damage. With that in mind, it was facing my own mortality that got my mind racing harder and faster than it ever had before. Searching frantically for answers, for solutions, and for preventative measures for many of the most treacherous maladies.

It got me thinking, and intensely curious about how to overcome them. I had stumbled across some pretty amazing projects people were working on at the time, such as Ido Bachelet and his clamshell nanorobots that he and his team programmed to release chemotherapy drugs directly at cancer ridden cells. The claim was that this process could be used to cure any form of cancer, given they could identify specific markers to target it. (excuse any ignorant verbiage or assumptions here, again I am not a scientist). Last I heard about the project was they had a subject with Stage 4 leukemia with one month to live and they were going to use the nanorobots to cure the subject. Things went dark from there. Some more info -> Nanorobots made out of DNA seek and kill cancer cells

This was all just so exciting to me to find out about. To really see how fast things are advancing in the field of medicine, to truly help not just individuals, but the masses. Every time I read about cures, or vaccines, or breakthroughs, the hair stands up on the back of my neck. My face gets flush, my eyes well up. It's a feeling of pure joy and pride for our species. The true marvel of human achievement. It's this feeling that I now crave. It's the end result that could potentially save humanity as we know it and create an end time for disease and even death.

So I have been researching and taking notes since I've made this realization about myself and what I want to accomplish in life. I want to contribute in this field how I can with the goal being to organize and push towards these breakthroughs. This can take many forms, and I am still working out the details, but this is the long game for me.

As far as getting there, the plan now is to build my company to sell, make enough from that sale to gain 100% control over my time and finances for the rest of my life to be able to 100% focus on this endeavor. It's all in the works.

Kids first.. but maybe a Porsche Panamera some day.

Noooooooo!

Freedom of my time is my Lambo. I don't care about material things, but I would like to have enough money to live a good life, travel A LOT, and not have to worry about running out of money.

The Cirrus Vision personal jet would be an extension of this freedom to go anywhere

My #1 thing has always been freedom. In AZ there's a bunch of private communities with air-strips and I can honestly tell you that I've considered them. I can't fly a plane but considered learning, but the idea of taking off whenever/wherever has a certain amount of appeal. Freedom is expensive to begin with, but "freedom augmenters" can be super-expensive.

Why? Can't we think big? Many people have achieved this. Many multi-millionaires and billionaires have 100s of cars, many islands, and mansions. My desires are small when compared to what some people have achieved.
Sure, you can think big. Yes, you're right. Many people have achieved a lot of success. I can just tell you that as you age and mature, your priorities many times change. The things that I thought I wanted when I was younger, don't have any importance anymore. Having stuff has become an empty dream for me. I can go out and buy stuff (And yes, I can afford a lot of things I used to want. ) But then I must take care of it, insure it and find a place to put it.

For example: In my real estate career, I inspected many huge estates and homes. Many times, the people only lived in the kitchen, the great room off of the kitchen, their master bedroom area, and a patio area. Only their maids saw the rest of the house when those areas were cleaned. I asked myself why. Why did they have all these bedrooms and bathrooms that were almost never used? I saw closets stuffed with clothes, with the sales tags still attached. What good are clothes that have never been worn? I saw the artwork in rooms where the lights were never turned on. I saw cupboards and cupboards of dishes that were quietly waiting to be used. It's like these people were living in a museum dedicated to their success. I walked away feeling sad.

I used to tell myself when I accomplished X, I'd be happy. When I was able to afford X, I'd be happy. When I could go to X, I'd be happy. I had major health problems when I was young that threatened my life. I woke up one day and asked myself when I was going to allow myself to be happy. And that's when everything changed for me. I live every day as though it will be my last day. Yes, I still work hard. I'm a senior citizen and I still work more than a full schedule. I don't have to do that anymore, but working keeps me going. It gives my life meaning. And, every day I stop and smell roses -- I do something that makes me smile. I have accomplished some pretty wonderful things in my life. I've gone further than I ever thought possible. The question now is -- what is enough? What do I really need? What makes me happy and feel fulfilled? Someday you might ask yourself the same questions...

Now, I'm realizing if I only wanted to experience Ferrari or Lamboginini I could rent them.I know I'm not going to use them every day. But, I wanted to buy them because I want to show others I've succeeded.

When I was younger, I drove my cars alot. But yesterday, my friend asked me how many miles I've put on my Mclaren. I've had it for 10 months. I've driven it 1200 miles. If I sold it today, it would have cost me $28 a mile. I get what you mean about renting, I think I'm going to just take over a lease on my next one.

To break free from the Corporate America world. To move away from solely relying on One Income source, to never have to experience a Performance Improve Plan ever again let alone to not have to experience it once more. To not be let go due to the company thinking that I am no longer valuable (we are all cogs of the system).

To prove my parents wrong, to never have to worry about money ever again, to actually help others and make an impact. To help uplift one another. To never be in debt, ever again.

To never have to experience this feeling of loneliness, being single, with 4 cats, in my apartment. I've worked at one goal and one goal only. To make $100k per year. But I made poor choices along the way and yet these choices lead to my downfall to where I am at today.

"Don't be afraid to start over again. This time, you're not starting from scratch, you're starting from experience" -Peter Dinklage.

Financial Freedom is what I desire.

Reading The Millionaire Fastlane has opened my eyes to a whole another world and all of it makes sense. I took the red pill and now my friends/family don't understand what I say nowadays.

But I thought about it and it makes perfect sense, we will always teach the same narrative to our children and to their children. "Get a job, get good grades" etc... etc...

Someone within your family tree has to stop this generational creed or else we will all live our lives with regret.

Where do I see myself in 10 years? I am still planning this til this day, but I for one do not want to be in the same apartment in the next 10 years playing video games while being alone. I don't want this life... It's not fun.

Don't worry, I see it and have seen it and know exactly what you mean. It is proof of your endurance and perseverance, just like basically every wealthy person I've ever met. It has taken all of them years. I don't know many "young entrepreneurs" outside of this forum, hence the draw!

That being said, the draw of the "fastlane" is to speed up the process. But, even if you "make it" early in life, you are still going to see your wealthiest days as you get older, so there's that too :)
The big difference for me isn't being "wealthy" -- I'm not there yet. For me, the big watershed is being financially independent. That's where I got to finally have choices.

The fastlane wasn't available when I was young. Women, at that time, got married right out of high school and they had a baby the first year -- with more to follow. Yes, I got married to my childhood sweetheart on cue -- but I went to college to get my education rather than having a baby. I started a career. Talk about a bunch of unhappy in-law family members! No grandkids? My moves earned me my first divorce.

Yes, it's taken me a lifetime of working to "arrive". I've bucked the system for all of those years. I've been the wild mare who made her own path. In the end, I have no regrets. I did the best I could in the situations as they came up and hit me over the head.

I grew up with a single mother in a household that barely got by. I am 30 years old but my mum is 75, she has struggled her entire life. Of course I want to be wealthy for myself but it's more to make sure my mum can enjoy however many years she has left. I think this is the reason I panic so much that I haven't figured it out yet, by the time I am 40 she will be 85. She desperately wants to go to Florida before she is too old, and I just want to find a way to make this happen for her. It really gets to me when I haven't figured out my plan to make this happen yet.

@WJK thank you for your response. Much appreciated.

And thank you for the wonderful things you did and do.
I grew up in the ghetto and had my taste of homelessness.

You are someones' angel. Many someones I'm sure.
I wouldn't be here without my angels, and I know one when I see one.

I didn't grow up in the ghetto, but I grew up really hard. I'm still very grateful for my "angels" who gave me shelter and spaces where I could grow and thrive. I used to see my background as a negative. Now I see it as the wind under my wings that gave me the guts and the incentive to go further than I ever dreamed I could.
