I got nabbed going 72 in a 55 while still on my permit a few weeks ago, luckily the cop was nice so he only marked me for 5 over, if it was the full 17 I would have lost my license for at least a year and would've had to start drivers training over again...I bet I never get another speeding ticket! :p

I used to live in VA and like Kak said, its about pure revenue which is the reason they are the one of the only states that outlaw radar detectors. Also, radar detectors are becoming obsolete because most of the cops use laser and radar picks up laser AFTER the cop gets your speed. I know this because I had the best radar detector I could find ($499) and I still got ticketed twice. The radar detector detected the laser but it was too late. If you really want to beat speeding tickets, you need a laser descrambler to put on your front and back bumpers. Just make sure they are allowed in your state.

Emporia and South Hill VA are the main pain points because they are the intersection of 95, 85, and 58. I've gotten pulled over many times in that area.

Money doesn't buy skill nor class. Take a look at how many cars are around, that's wreck-less driving.
There's a time and place for everything. I don't go over 85-90 unless I'm on the track. Never above 75 if it's heavy traffic. Always keeping 4-5 car distance over 60mph.
You don't purchase a sports car to keep up with a Prius.

A close friend of mine got so many traffic offenses (speeding, driving on a suspended license, etc) that he finally got a lesson behind bars for 3months. Came out and re-offended and went in for 6months. Surely, you would have learned the 1st or second time but no he does it again and this time was suppose to be 9months. He hired a lawyer and got it down to 3months (lucky him).

It looks like a temporary drug/smoke addiction for some who ignore the law but its all fun and games until a life is taken :(

Actually I looked very hard. I looked at every radar forum and radar ranking blog I could find. Every one of them said the Escort Passport rated at the top or near the very top. 499 was the price.

I personally tried slowing down but sometimes when the music is up and im driving a long distance, i go fast. Its not for fun, its just what happens.

I hear that. I never speed in traffic. I don't weave in and out. I go with the flow of traffic. In fact I pull out of the right lane to let the assholes pass. But at night when there no one around I will speed my a$$ off. Unless it's not perfect road conditions. I try to drive overnight as much as possible to avoid traffic. I am a safe speeder. Or at least I used to be lol. I without a doubt will be driving slower from now on. Can't afford this lesson again lol

This thread reminds me of a time my buddy and I went up to a little Mercedes enthusiast GTG. It was a quite perfect Sunday morning and we figured we would leave early and drive up sipping on our coffee enjoying a fine sunny fall day...perfect Mercedes driving weather.

Well he was in his S600 and I was in my classic S class.

We get on the road and its clear, two lane fast highway, nice sweeping wide bends...just like out cars native homes...and not any cars on it. I pull up beside him and give him the look and he guns it.:driving:

I ran the entire way up at 115-130, he blew past me since he had the V12 and said he hit 180 on one part. I loved the feeling of a proper German drive, laughing off the silly US speed limits. I didn't even lift around the bends, the big old S just hunkered down and maintained a calm 120mph with no effort and loved it.

Everyone called the cops though, because the guys behind us got nailed and said they set up like 3 speed traps.:eusa_naughty::smilielol::rofl:

Someone once told me if you want money and girls in life you don't need to drive fast to get either one. :)

I got on ticket when I'd had my license for about a year, 21km over the limit. Big fine and demerit points. It's now 3 years since I got that ticket and I haven't gotten another one.

Just learn to appreciate getting to the speed limit quickly and don't go over it xD. I can still find plenty of roads to have a heap of fun on without getting into trouble.
