Does anybody know how to run a photography contest as a way to get good photographs to use in your website?

We are a start-up just building our website and are considering whether to run a photography contest to help us find a good photograph for the home page of our website.

Does anybody have any experience of running a photography contest in order to achieve a similar goal?

And if so, what is a cost effective, successful and easy way to run such a contest?

All advice and suggestions will be well received.

Do not complicate your life with photo contest if you just need images for your website. Any public domain photos will be OK for your needs so, once again, Google is your friend. Enter a phrase like "public domain photography" and you will find a lot of websites offering photos for free.
Or, IMHO much better, go to Flickr and search Creative commons department for images free for commercial use - they have a zillion photos. You can also use http://search.creativecommons.org/ - a search engine for creative commons images.

There is a world of images available through stock photography sites at a very reasonable price. Especially if you only want to display them on a web site as the smaller the resolution you need the cheaper the image.

Try http://www.alamy.com

or I use http://www.stocklib.com great images at really good prices.

Try a professional site first as a lot of the free images available are free for a reason. You get what you pay for most of the time.
