So.. someone transferred over $25,000,000 worth, with 0 fees.

https://blockchain.info/tx/369e26689af06471241a827a8a46332a1191f2c25ad8fbf3b643b2d8c9b07c4c

I'm still amazed. I get raped sending under $10k worth of currency between my bank accounts and get stuck waiting for days. This guy clicks a button and zaps $25mil anywhere in the world that he pleases, damn near instantly.

Bitcoin (or cryto in general) is going to make being an expat so much easier

That is amazing. No wonder the likes of WU are getting nervous.

Bitcoin really needs to clean up the foundation and the Gox problem child. Otherwise something really is going to come along and supplant it. I gotta wonder what all these stealth mode startups have up their sleeves.

Anyone see the Wolong coin announcement? His own Pandacoin. I don't know how I feel about "IPO" buy-ins to coins, but I'll probably try to mine some.

Meh..Gox should die after the latest fiasco..hopefully. Good luck supplanting 100's of millions of Venture Capital dollars that are going into the infrastructure. Wall st money comes next and then other crypto's simply become toys to play with...in the short term at least.

So I have a question about mining these coins. I have no idea how this process works, but I figured I would ask you guys and gals. Is the mining process secure? How secure? By mining coins do you open yourself up to potential hackers? Are there any security concerns with mining?

Just wondering about the security of this stuff.

Be careful with something that's media driven. JS...

Does anyone know of a solid charting site that has ALL of the usual indicators like bands, chanels and emas? Not interested in fib retracements and fans... There doesn't seem to be too much out there.
For EMA, bitcoinwisdom has them under settings.
For the other stuff, check out tradingview.com, where u can draw lines as u please. Many ppl on there just like to draw pictures, but most of them don't even trade. Take their advice with caution.

Bitcoin Exchanges Under ‘Massive and Concerted Attack’
Published on February 11, 2014 at 17:50 GMT
A “massive and concerted attack” has been launched by a bot system on numerous bitcoin exchanges, Andreas Antonopoulos has revealed.

The chief security officer of Blockchain.info said a DDoS attack is taking Bitcoin’s transaction malleability problem and applying it to many transactions in the network, simultaneously.

“So as transactions are being created, malformed/parallel transactions are also being created so as to create a fog of confusion over the entire network, which then affects almost every single implementation out there,” he added.

Antonopoulos went on to say that Blockchain.info’s implementation is not affected, but some exchanges have been affected – their internal accounting systems are gradually going out of sync with the network.

He stressed that this isn’t affecting withdrawals, because these exchanges are not processing them automatically.

Antonopoulos said we will see a few exchanges suspend withdrawals temporarily while they re-work their accounting systems to ensure they are not confused by the attack.

“It’s important to note no funds have been lost. Withdrawals have been halted to prevent funds from being lost or to prevent the balances from going out of sync,” he stressed.

Industry action
An industry-wide coordinated response has been put into action, with exchanges and core developers collaborating actively to attack the problem from multiple angles.

Various other groups within the ecosystem, including the big mining pools, are working to stop it the issue from propagating across the network.

Any exchanges that are affected are working on fixing their internal systems so they correct the account balances and can resume withdrawals as soon as possible.

“I would expect to see withdrawals flowing again within 24 and 72 hours, and in the meantime, any withdrawals that were cancelled will reappear in the customer account balances,” Antonopoulos explained.

Bitstamp has issued the following statement:

Dear Bitstamp users

Bitstamp’s exchange software is extremely cautious concerning Bitcoin transactions. Currently it has suspended processing Bitcoin withdrawals due to inconsistent results reported by our bitcoind wallet, caused by a denial-of-service attack using transaction malleability to temporarily disrupt balance checking. As such, Bitcoin withdrawal processing will be suspended temporarily until a software fix is issued.

No funds have been lost and no funds are at risk.

This is a denial-of-service attack made possible by some misunderstandings in the Bitcoin wallet implementation. These misunderstandings have simple solutions that are being implemented as we speak, and we’re confident everything will be back to normal shortly.

Withdrawals which failed on the 10th and 11th of February will be canceled and the amounts added back to the customer account balances.

We will communicate any further developments regarding this issue.

Thank you for your understanding!

Best regards
Bitstamp team

@rexxkai thank you very much! Quick question - is there a way to play both sides of these things? Meaning, if I wanted to take the short side, is that easily achievable? Also, for some reason I can't get an answer, but, who takes the spread? Is there a broker system set up or a specialist type system?

There is nothing stopping you specifying a high sell and low buy at the same time. You will need a holding in the coin (to sell) and the requisite currency (whether that be fiat, btc or other altcoin) to buy.

If you mean shorting as you would do in stocks, I have seen websites advertising this, but have never delved into this as it feels like it is more akin to gambling.

I've just sent Wolong some BTC for his new Pandacoin.

Somewhat weird that I'm sending anonymous (not really though) cryptocoins to someone I don't know, on the internet, on the promise of receiving an altcoin, which I don't really know will be worth anything.

Roll on!

I believe day trading is more of a lottery!

Don't spread yourself too thin and avoid pump and dumps, by the time you get involved you are already too late and will end up holding the bag.

Buy low, sell high.

Thanks PSK. I ask because it seems to me that the money right now is possibly best made trading both sides as technically speaking, it appears to fall into some fairly predictable candlestick drawings- if that makes sense. The bias tho right now, is heavy to the downside.

So, my point is that somebody's selling and putting some heavy pressure on. And if "these" can't be shorted to a middleman, someone (unfortunate imo) has to be taking the buy-side. I guess what I'm trying to say is that something just doesn't feel right with the underlying mechanics behind the way these things move.

anywho.

.
thanks

The only thing I don't like about pandacoin is I think its a douchebag move on their part to rip off an already existing pandacoin. I also would prefer if wolong focused on following through on unobtanium before jumping to the next thing.

For shorting bitcoin, check out bitfinex.com.

U also talked about there being major selling pressure. How are u coming to this conclusion? I would like to know how you are thinking.

Do you also trade with other instruments? Stocks?

For those who may be concerned about running their computers and security with mining, etc. With our miners, they do not require a secondary computer to run. They are their own self contained computer systems that do not require anything except power and an internet connection to start mining. As long as your network is secure, using our miners will be secure, as the interface to the miners is only accessible on the local network.
