Ben Horowitz, one of the top 50 VC fund leader in the valley, speaks at the Colombia university's engineering school's graduation. He is the author of the book "The hard things about hard things", which I count it second to MJ's TMF . This guys loves to speak and write about nothing but the truth about life and entrepreneurship, and he at times is very politically incorrect, just how I like it.

In the speech, he dismissed a famous and popular quote to college graduates: Life is not about follow your passion, but follow the contribution that the passion brings. He also bought up two points that was very interesting to me:
1. Similar to Peter Thiel's belief stated in his book "Zero to one", Ben also believes that a founder of a company needs to know a truth that no one else knows or agrees with him. From this secret/untold truth, the founder may pursuit value in never found territories and thus making lots of money/impact that's never been seen before.
2. He listed actual facts/numbers to state that the world has been getting heck a lot better since the early 40's, and I think MJ talk about this in the TMF as well. Even though that the media keeps telling us how bad the world is and how many challenges that young people face today, the truth is, we are actually facing way, way more opportunities than challenges compared to the people of even very high social/economic statues just over 30 years ago.

Overall, I feel this speech is a must watch for many fastlaners here, Ben is probably my second favorite entrepreneur behind MJ as of now, as his style is very similar to MJ. I seriously recommend people pick up his book "The hard things about hard things", it's got a 4.5 rating on Amazon which is just as much as MJ's book, you won't regret it!

Already read Hard Thing. Good stuff. Mostly applicable when you actually run a big company. Can't wait to watch the video when time permits...
