GREAT IDEA FOR 2014 B&P: Have speakers answer questions while others are setting up theirs. OR-- have ONE PC that runs all of the apps used for presentations.

For those that could not make it, here is a brief outline of what's happening.

Not a lot of details. Just impressions and rough outlines.

See you next year!

First up: Billy (Snowbank): How I get 400 subscribers per blog post.

How most bloggers do it (ie, the wrong way):

-Think of crappy topic that relates to your niche.
-Spend 10 minutes to 1 hour writing about it using SEO keywords.
-Don't make it very long. Regurgitate material.
-Post it
-Spend hours and hours talking to other bloggers, asking them to link to your crappy blog post, and you will, in turn, link to their crappy blog posts.

Bill's way:

Spend hours and hours writing a quality post
If it's not the best ever in its category, don't bother posting it.
Talk to a few respected influencers, see what they think (they have lots of followers)
Spend time on QUALITY of CONTENT, NOT on marketing.

What goes into making a great photo?

Composition
Lighting
Creativity

Comp

-Where you place your subject in the frame
-Rule of thirds
-See things differently (closer to ground, different angle from where person would normally see it)

Lighting
-Hard vs soft
-“golden hour”
-Off camera lighting

Motion

Creativity

See things differently
Not the gear, but the technique
Try different things
Ask questions
Have fun

Applications:

Products:
-Control subject’s environment
-Fill the frame
-Adequate # of pix

Real Estate
Staging
Wide Angle

Great examples/photos!!

“One second every day”
Video Project

Montage of moments—things that happen each day.

Makes you live your life with intent. What one second captures the entire day, or an important moment. Eg, three days in bed, 3 shots of being in bed

Sound is part of the memory

Buying Tax Liens

RTFC! (c = tax codes)

Disads:

Not liquid
Lots of rules/laws
No room for error
Cash intensive
Lack of predictability Internest rates are lower than theory
Risk involved
Chance you might lose some or all of your money
Fees
Stuck w/worthless property

Is it Fastlane? Probably not b/c your money is parked. Negates velocity of money strategy

Bulk real estate tax liens.

Who can buy? Min age, $$$, online or in person or by mail

You can bid down interest. Bid down by ownership (NEVER DONE, becomes lotteries)

Some auctions are bid DOWN, others are bid UP-- you need to know this in advance!!

Really, really need to know the state/county where you are bidding, or you are toast.

Russ H's personal fastlane example:

Millionaire buys every foreclosed home in Michigan county for $4.8 million | Fox News

Do the math:

5 mil ÷ 650 homes = $7,692.00 PER HOUSE.

He then sold a bunch of them to all of the buyers who were AT THE SAME AUCTION, for $20-80K each.

Their plan was all about velocity:

-Sell the houses to the other bidders ASAP
-Rehab the quick turn-arounds to RE investors
-Donate the remaining properties to charities

In and out in a year.

Next up: Mike M (RealOG). He always makes me think. Looking forward to this.

Urban Trike (wow, GREAT logo).

Dates back to Mike's Bday.

MIke's experience building a biz: Getting corporate structure, biz plan in place, timeline, etc.

Kenric said, "Why do that?" How many pp want your product?

-Don't worry about stuff until it's an issue.
-Don't do stuff your customers aren't asking for.

Look legit, bro! (you don't need to shell out megabucks to do this).

Defining market niche-- dealing w/emotions.

<this section hidden. Great links and suggestions for places that will make you look legit for pennies>

Astounding how much interest and product placement Mike is getting. Unbelievable. 3000% growth this year over last.

Runum (Greg B)
Raising Kids (Greg is a teacher)

Demographics-- background of Greg's school kids

Kids are not "One Size Fits All"-- they may not do well in private school or home schooling, or public school.

10 year olds:

Read to your kid, w/EMOTION, as soon as possible. Read with realism, so they can feel it.

Have them read to YOU, as soon as they can.

Review with them what you/they have just read (comprehension)

Draw correlations between words so they can understand new words.

Show your kid how you solve problems. Verbalize what the problem is. Show they how you fix it. Make problems an opportunity, not a roadblock. Show them you are not defeated by problems.

Do the math: A teacher has 60 kids. They love your kids, and can do amazing things w/them. But parents need to give their kids personal attention-- they can accomplish so much-- much more than a teacher. Greg's opinion: Parents NEED to do this.

Teach your kid to ask better (more precise) questions by doing it yourself in your interactions w/them. Not "how was your day?". But "What did you learn today?"

How I met Kenric (buying a silver NSX)

Dry Cleaning biz
All competitors within 2-3 miles use same machines, all had seamstresses, etc.
Remember details about customers (son who got hurt playing basketball, ask when you see them again).

Bar owner
Everyone who walks in that door should feel like a rockstar.
Try to get your employees to treat customers the same way. Hard to do.
Started hiring someone with no experience whatsoever. Instead, looked for someone who smiled, was sharp, personable.

Now does a website.
Do more for your customers than your competitors.

Andrea
Muscle Fascia tissue

Fascinating presentation on body mechanics, muscle fascia, and how problems in one part of your body can cause pain/cramps/knots in other parts of your body.

Treatments may just be for pain management, mobility, dealing w/inflammation, getting your body mechanics back where they need to be, etc.

Volunteer: Parkour (aka Derek). Andrea showed how one issue/cramp/knot leads to another. Great stuff.

my personal question (based on stuff I had done years ago): Field is called Applied Kinesiology.

Getting a logo for your biz

Logo design for $10

1. Write about your company

2. Go online, find at least 2 examples of logos you like

3. Find 4-5 designers from fiverr.com

4. Define your task in details. Eg, how long it will take, that you need the file that is scalable, color or not, etc.

5. Ask the designers you pick if they're interested, given your parameters

6. Pick 2 designers that are interested, tell them short company description context where logo will be used (website, brochure, etc),

7. Use the one you like the most.

Basics and Getting Started

Camera backs-- Canon, Nikon,

Lighting- strobes, boxes, Alien lamps

DO NOT skimp on a tripod, also stands for lights

Shooting table: Built one out of PVC piping w/plexi top, MUCH cheaper than commercial tables

Gear: Should be able to get a quality set up for $2-3K

***

TEchniques:

Basics: main goal is to take great shots, but secondary goal is to automate process as much as possible

Proper equipment and light placement can eliminate post-processing

<<lots of other great suggestions>>

____

Tips: ALways shoot in RAW format

Most are white background

Shooting transparent objects or those w/lots of white can be a challenge

Always entertaining. Easy to miss how much great info he gives b/c we're laughing.

Blogging: From 2000 to 26,000 subscribers in ONE YEAR

Found that email marketing was a great way to connect to client base

# of subscribers x conversion rate = revenue

Scalable, more subscribers = more money.

Multiple subscriber options (give them every opportunity to get on your list)

Content, content, content...

Controversial (measure their success rate by # of unsubscribes per article).

Speak your mind-- don't pull punches.

Add value.

Partnerships: Other sites, same target client. Affiliates to promote conferences, article swaps.

PR (Radio, Blog, Magazine)

Speaking Events (small groups, conferences, host your own)

***great info for any biz ***

Grew up in apts. Goal was to live in a house.

Moved from NJ to CA when he was 15.

Next, to OK. Went to college there. Still lives there.

Became a DJ in school. Was entrepreneurial as a kid (didn't know what "entrepreneur" was, but did it by nature).

Built a mobile DJ company to 10 units, owned his own biz.

In 98/99, was 27 year old. In 2000, read Rich Dad Poor Dad, changed his life. He sold everything he owned and started to buy real estate.

Started a large bridal show (largest in OK).

In 2011, read Millionaire Fastlane . Again, not a reader-- the book blew him away.

Read the f'en book, w/his mom, changed his life. Called his acct, and said, "Get me P&Ls, I want to sell my business".

His acct called him back and offered to buy the business. So he sold it, based on what he read in TMFL.

Wrote the book "The Savvy Landlord".

Read RDPD, and became a millionaire.

Read TMFL, became a multi-millionaire.

Now has 47 properties. Bought his first deal in 1999. Everything local (in OK)

Done it all with systems. RDPD: "Do it once"-- so he developed systems (checklists). Goal was to have someone else run his business if he wasn't there.

Very inspirational. An honest, down to earth presentation from someone who has been there, and done it.

Paleo Diet

Still recovering from last night's festivities and Jack Daniels.

Eat like a caveman. Low processed, whole foods.

Grass fed meet, pastured eggs, pastured milk/eggs are OK from some experts, fruits (stay away from high sugar fruits like pineapples, mangos, and bananas if you're trying to lose weight).

Stay away from carbs, sugars, refined foods.

White potatoes cause insulin spike. Sweet potatoes are better. Eat protein first, helps to diminish insulin spike.

Vitamin D3 most important vitamin. Also Omega 3s (too much Omega 6s). Healthy fats: Avocado, coconut, grass fed butter, olive oil.

Just had his bloodwork done last week. Good Cholesterol up, bad cholesterol down, great results.

Good books:

Paleo Solution-- Robb Wolff

Primal Blueprint-- Mark Sisson

Working w/the US Govt as a contractor

Negotiating your requirements
Govt is extremely risk averse
Govt employees are there for security and retirement benefits

Biggest takeaway:

Govt has to "use it or lose it" every budget year.

So they will burn through all of their budget by the end of the year, or the money will be taken away (they cannot save it)

There are companies that work 24/7 in September each year just taking as many orders as possible (end of fiscal year for govt agencies). One B&P attendee has a friend that built a $2 BILLION a year company in 5 years just catering to this.
