Princess site I worked on in January now live.

Heavily modified version of the "Monaco" theme and I followed a series of design mock-ups to get the look/feel the client wanted. I ensured as much of my code was as unobtrusive as possible, meaning it would not interfere with the core theme.

Worked hard to make sure it was done to a standard befitting the client: -

great job with the code!

Thank you very much!!

--

This week (small L): -

1. Finish Dennis App (dependent on #2)
2. J2UK App Auth + single cards functioning in front end -> get single cards demoed & start on auth (big thing for week)
3. Christoph Site flesh out (continue building out)

Things I did instead: -

a) Helped Dennis with other work
b) Helped get princess site live
c) Worked on J2UK single cards (#2)

The single cards work progressed, but not as far as I would like. There are a few small things to finish with the Javascript before I can work on getting the auth stuff done. My goal for next week is to get the single cards JS finished.

On a secondary note, the guys added my original code to a new page and it worked almost flawlessly!

Next week: -

1. Finish Dennis App (dependent on #2)
2. Get single cards demoed & start on auth (big thing for week)
3. Christoph Site flesh out (continue building out)

A little less wins than last week but still a nice call.
@rpeck90 asked me an interesting question: What makes me (someone making decent first money) different from the people at level 0 on the call. The only thing I could think of is that I actually offer something to others and help them.

Like @Andy Black would say, "Help people. Get paid. Help more people". If you simply sell something that provides value, money will enter your life. For that money to become something life changing, relative value and CENTS come into play. But first you need to sell something to someone.
Many great things started by simply helping a few people (e.g. the internet was originally made, so universities could exchange information more efficiently)

Excellent call once again - great insights from @Subsonic.

Interesting to observe what influences success; Henry actively wishing not to get customers due to workload whilst others struggling. Moral of story = get offers out the door, do work (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), get paid.

Thank you all once again, inspiring and highly valuable!

-

Goals after domain: -

1. Hire Justine for shoot + Eve Ventrue or Chase Stone for art
2. Get static developed + out door
3. Start looking at hiring & get business set up to handle better work to support world class team
4. Repeat 1+2 with other products (VPS etc) + pre-release evenings at Crazy Horse or similar
5. Get brand listed on Walpole - Promoting, Protecting & Developing British Luxury Worldwide
6. Other secret things

@ all of you using this call. Everyone is focusing on minor tasks for the week. I'm dropping this here because it's important.

Those tasks you are posting or talking about are not moving you forward. If you want to make it far, start focusing on moving the needle each week.

Saying "im going to post" or prepare for a lecture" is not moving things forward.

You are all working together to be accountable for building your business. Be very intentional about how you are doing that.

Also to note "make money as an entrepreneur" and "get one sale".... these things aren't inside of your control. If it doesnt happen... you can't even blame yourself... right? BUT WHO CARES. You should be responsible for it.

What is the input that you need to do to go make a dollar?... it's definitely not going to come walk in your front door just because you want it to or you feel like you deserve it.

Entrepreneurship is HARD work. You have to make BIG moves consistently, not be focusing on little tasks and playing small to guarantee a win and not be help responsible for missing something on the call.

Take risks, make the call of a lifetime, think bigger, do some real shit!

Do it this week and stop playing around if you want to make it.

Was a W for the week... the automations I started with were simple (pulling in ads data automatically via the APIs) but now I'm using GPT-4o to make them super powerful, such as including automated summaries & basic analysis of what went on. There's even more I can do and I've been exploring that.

This week: I'll be on vacation in Florida, will still have to make sure the clients are doing OK but I have nothing planned.

I will make another 3 videos, upload the ones I made this week, and launch the automations for content performance reporting & test suggestions, first for my ad account. If they work well then I'll roll them out to client accounts

I got disconnected during the call because there was a huge thunderstorm in my area. Everything went off.

It was a L for me this week. Since I've got exams nearing, I want to focus more on study atleast for this month so here are my goals.

- Study for 4 hours & make 50-100 flashcards everyday
- Continue working on the website project for client
- Reach out to 10 people everyday with personalized messages and keep posting content 3X/week on LinkedIn

My goal for the year is to scale my web design business to over $10k/month.

I will leave the group to decide an L or W for me.

The engineer who was supposed to deliver the software as per my guidelines didn't deliver.

So automation still got delayed.

Somehow its my fault too because I decided to take a break and spend some quality time with my little daughter.

So in the middle of the week, i quit my work and flew to other end of my country. I will be back tomorrow Evening.

The last 4 days were best days of my life. Spending time with my little angel ...

Time is most valuable entity in the world, and I made a very good investment in last 4 days.

This is also an experiment to figure out if my business survives without me!

Respect and regards!

I apologise for missing this week's call!

My daughter was watching a video of an awesome place on YouTube and asked me, is rhis true? .. I booked tickets, within next hour .. and told her ... Let's find out.

Now she found out herself.

And now I have an angry wife to face tomorrow evening along with neglected sons ..:happy:

But the experience was worth it!

That’s a “W” on my book man.

Despite facing a setback on your weekly goals, you are still progressing towards your larger goals. Moreover, what you have accomplished in some weeks is more than what many achieve in years.

Most importantly, you still make time for your most significant purpose: being there for those who care about you and whom you love.

If you don’t mind me asking.

What are some of the things/actions that have “moved the needle” for you and your business?

I get the general “What is one thing that you can do to get you closer to your first/next client?” or similar.

But it seems like it’s easy to mix it up with other activities that may look important or helpful yet not as effective.

As a beginner in this journey, I see that we tend to focus on more manageable tasks because that is what makes sense at the moment.

When starting out the only things that matter are those that allow people to pay you.

It's easy to confuse "manageable tasks" with "comfortable tasks".

If you were to simply message 100 people a day for 100 days with a reasonable offer you'd have your customers.

You already know what you need to do, just as everyone on the call does.

I am not exempt from this. If I would simply knock on 100 doors a day for 100 days I'd have my 10k or more a month business.

I totally agree with your point about execution ultimately dominating everything

It's the underlying need behind that reasonable offer that I find so hard to tackle.

Sometimes it feels like chasing a ghost, hahaha

I've been reflecting on what you told me in that last session about "listening closer to the market". It seems that instead of trying to build something based on the "whispers" of the market, I need to change my strategy and focus on building something small and coherent in order to truly hear those whispers.

Somewhat counterintuitive to what I understood about starting a business on solid ground.

Somewhat counterintuitive to what I understood about starting a business on solid ground.
it's about a mindset and a habit. being a producer, selling small things, listening to peoples needs, having small experiences, crafting CENTS ideas. maybe start there. pick anything easy to sell, in a small way, just sell it to one person.

My daughter was watching a video of an awesome place on YouTube and asked me, is rhis true? .. I booked tickets, within next hour .. and told her ... Let's find out.

Now she found out herself.

And now I have an angry wife to face tomorrow evening along with neglected sons ..:happy:

But the experience was worth it!
i think you get an L. the goal was "make a proper version of the automation". you didn't make the version. the goal is incorrect in the first place because it was made by an engineer not by you. you gotta set a goal that depends on you. I think you are tired and that explains everything. just rest and then get back to take care of your business. if you were recently successful, value that success instead of leaving it to fate by continuing to take care of your business. I think you should work a little bit less so you don't get so tired and enjoy life with your family.

[I get the general “What is one thing that you can do to get you closer to your first/next client?” or similar.

These two statements are counteractive. One answers the other, it is the filter.

"Other activities that look helpful or important".... well how can they be helpful or important if they aren't aligned with your goal of getting more clients?

You are excusing yourself to get it mixed up. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or not, I work with seasoned CEO's that have the same mix up. You do it because it's easier and less painful. Being a beginner actually means you have less bias and less time in which means you are more flexible and adaptable than someone who's been in biz 20 years. Look at it as an advantage and get rid of the silly excuses.

Spend 1 hour.... the first hour of your work day, on getting more clients (whatever that direct action is for your business). If you can spend more, spend more, if you have to spend the other 5-6-7 on fulfillment or coding or whatever, then do that, but be consistent with developing new customers and your business will grow.

As will your mindset, because as an entrepreneur you need to stay in a state of growth to maximize your opportunities day to day.

It's relatively easy for them, because a just "starting out" business basically doesn't exist. Of course you just focus on dialing the damn phone, lol, you've got nothing else to do.

Allocating priorities though is a big problem for bigger businesses. I'm not sure, for example, if I should spend my time doing more outreach, testing other angles, posting content on LinkedIn, or even something completely different (for example, spending time doing high-value, creative work, for clients with huge potential). I have 70ish clients in my fold atm. I could just push to acquire more. Last year I spent over 20+ hours every single week on sales calls with clients, and untold hours marketing (ie, before the call) to acquire 100+ clients. It's very painful, there must be an easier way to scale.

At the moment I'm doing the latter (ie working on high value, creative projects). In my mind though, I'm still working on client acquisition. Because a super detailed case study with massive results on a single client will enable clients to be acquired faster, with greater ease who bear a close resemblance to that one client.

I'm also working on testing a new outreach offer. Why don't I just keep the same outreach offer? Because effectiveness is decreasing. But sure, perhaps I could do better in the short run by just maximising volume. It's all about sorting out priorities, and there's no easy way to do this.

You may say, for example, that the icons in the solutions section of my website don't matter if my goal is to get clients. Just leave those basic icons there. And you'd be wrong. Because those basic icons make people think that (1) we're poor, (2) we don't deserve money. I want people to think we're rich, and they should be grateful to get a cold email from us selling them something. When they hop on a call with me, they should have thousands already prepared for us. They shouldn't question us on price. Brokies should be intimidated and not book a call in the first place. And so on.

All these things matter. I'm currently paying $600 for someone to create some custom icons just for that section of the website. Some people would think that's an absurd investment. But, it's just like the peacock's tail – it's functionally useless, but it transmits the message that we're rich, strong, and powerful and therefore they should mate with us - which does make it easier to attract clients. That's why you get the Rolex, you get the Lambo, you get a nice, super polished office in an expensive neighborhood... it's ALL client acquisition.

Like imagine I hire you... and you come to meet me in a Hyundai vs a Bugatti Chiron. What will I think? His advice is as good as his car, right? If you come in the Bugatti, I wouldn't even think to pay you less than $50K+ – I would feel that I'd be insulting you, because obviously you must have clients paying you top dollar to afford that car.

You probably skipped this phase :)
In that phase, I just did outreach and nothing else lol. Contact as many people as possible. Your priorities there are easy. You need money in your pocket TODAY, otherwise you'll go bankrupt.

With a profitable business, things have become much easier for me. I only spend time making decisions and planning further growth. Last week I had a 4-day trip with my daughter in a nice location while my factory produced gold, 3 shifts a day, without me! I could overview my business from just a tab whenever I wanted. Though the automation system was a bit crappy but it somehow worked. LOL. A bug-free system will be implemented this week.

A decade ago, I had to do everything myself! No portfolio of clients nor capital. It was tough, at least for me! My skills in sales got me through mostly!
