A Dropshipping dream Empire!

So hello again everyone!

Since my last post just over a year ago a lot has changed, I’ve stopped smoking marijuana, I’m very close to passing my driving test (due to lockdown unable to yet) and I’ve completed a course in business studies at college. I am hoping to start university in sept studying Business Studies with Entrepreneurship.

Last night I couldn’t sleep and was thinking about all the different things I could start as a side hustle. I’ve recently been looking into dropshipping and thought it sounds like a good idea it just needs an excellent niche to start selling. Then, (I know it may sound unoriginal) but I thought about sex toys! Sex toys provide value to others due to the pleasing nature, the wholesale prices are relatively cheap compared to what there sale prices could be marked up to and I have many ideas of what I could do with the site.

Now, I don’t have any experience dropshipping but Im thinking do I need to take a course on it? Or can I just do it through trail and error, as I feel like I know all the basic needs to be able to set it up. If any dropshippers have any advice they can give me or just general advice that would be good.

Also if anyone has started a dropshipping business what was your start up capital or how much did you spend before you started selling?

It is harder to advertise in the adult niche because there are more restrictions on the ads putting on google and Facebook.

You might want to consider the available advertising channels for this niche before starting.

Okay I didn't realise that, I'm just having a look into it now and seeing what I can do.
I was thinking of mainly advertising on Instagram where there is less restrictions on ads of that type of thing.

I'm looking into how long it'll take etc and seeing if I can maybe use a 3pl instead. As shipping will be a lot easier then. Or even do the first 100 sales from my home is that possible?

Ummm I stopped smoking everyday at the end of August last year and my last proper joint was probably january maybe before? Im not limiting myself to never smoking but for now until I have a stable and profitable business i plan not to smoke.

How are you going to differentiate yourself from all the other sex toy ecomms?

I plan to write a blog in my website dedicated to sexual health as well as pleasure because most other companies do not have that, mostly all of their blogs are just focused on the pleasure side of things.
I want my company to be more luxury based as well as value for money.
For example, Honey birdette are an amazing company based on luxury however their products are over priced and I think their products pricing is mainly based on the branding being so big, whereas i want to provide luxury branding as well low prices. What are your thoughts?

My why is because I find weed slows the process down as well as lowers motivation. I enjoy smoking however, believe it is unhelpful at my current point in life. Once I have a stable and profitable business I will use smoking to help with creative ideas and out-there advertisement (obviously following all restrictions)

The fact that you are not sure when you last smoked says a lot! People who keep up with things like that usually aren't very successful in quitting things such as drinking, smoking or what ever it is they are trying to quit. Great job! Just put things like that out of your mind and focus on doing great things!

Blog is good, as is value luxury.

Test your concept, use your blog, funnels, landing pages to get people to order, sign up for pre order at Special discounts maybe.

That's beyond my scope though, I'm more traditional b&m, that's bricks and mortar btw, not s&m

The sex toys industry is MASSIVE but you won't be able to run FB/IG ads. Look at Google or Bing ads if you're serious about this.

Also, make sure you know what you're getting yourself into as anything with batteries is a pain in the a$$ (no pun intended).

Yes I have looked into that and seen that mostly I’ll have to use google/bing ads but I was thinking I could promote my blog with facebook/ig ads as I’ll be promoting safe sex etc and that type of thing is allowed.

Also why are batteries/battery powered products such a pain?

I have found a uk store (I’m uk based) that does dropshipping specialising in sex toys and you can have them send the batteries with the product.

There are issues with storage and shipping depending on the country you sell to. I had a headache selling products with built-in batteries in the US.

Sex toys often are advertized with awful, bad descriptions. I think because the sellers dont really bother themselves with the stuff.
Make good exactly detailed descriptions and you will have more than 95% of your competition.
