I wasn't aware, guess it's just a pipe dream. thnks for letting me know before I put in all that work.
There are workarounds, but I just couldn't recommend anything, if your entire business is built on a workaround, you'll always be worried about the day it ends.

How many other people on this site use their real name or business names as their core identity?

How many of those businesses, entrepreneurs, and others with reputations to uphold will go on record saying they'd "hypothetically" use an erotic service/website?

Think about locational selection bias when collecting data. The way I see it, even if 90% of those surveyed WOULD use that site, the only people who will be truthful about it are those responding negatively.

You need to be asking this specific question on an adult forum, not a google-index-able business forum.

Let the market decide if they like it or not.
Do this.

I just don't see it ...

I don't need recommendations beyond those already provided by sites like Xvideos. I've never thought ... man ... I wish someone could figure this out for me because I'm lost.

As far as "group" discussion goes ... again ... I just don't see it. Who is going to join the "Hardcore Double Penetration Lovers" or "Extreme Teen Throat Destruction" forum ...?

Not me.

I just don't see it.

Back to the drawing board you should go.
I agree. Don't try to be cute and do something that's social and don't make you jack sh*t, money vise. See Tumblr and see other sites like that. Tons of traffic and little income.

I did some advertising in adult, circa 2003. I sold a big clits membership site. For every $1 I spent on traffic I made like $4. That's how you make money. But I didn't understand that to make real money you need to re-invest in more traffic and just go big.

I could probably had made millions if I had wanted to. Maybe not as an affiliate but if I had my own big clits content site with exclusive content. But I didn't have the money to start that. To be honest.

I am still sure that you can make money in adult. Just advertise something a little niched. You can drive general traffic to that and still make money I think. Even today.

Just my opinion.

Peace guys.

If you lack the confidence to actually give it a try, let me give you some "motivation":
- People are buying ringtones that sound like farts or burps. I think those are disgusting and silly, but I'm probably also not the one they're targetting.
Ok, to be honest, I think burping noises are kinda, sort-of, maybe, slightly funny... when they are really loud and impressive, but would I spend money to have them as a ringtone? Probably not.
Yet some people got rich because of fairly stupid (or let's just say "simple") stuff like that.

- Hearding virtual cattle and growing virtual vegetables on some social site sounds like a waste of precious time, yet there are tons of people who do exactly that. (Silly right? Growing virtual veggies is so 2012. Everybody knows having vegetables as your forum avatar is hot right now. Like d'uh.)

The "market", or more accurately "Team Consumer" seems to be pretty irrational if you look at it from a certain perspective.
So don't rely our words/opinions, regardless of whether they're encouraging or discouraging.
Go out and see for yourself whether there's a need for your service or not.
What's the worst that could happen? You'll lose some money. Big Deal. Some would call it "Purchasing data".

Also worth mentioning: You can always keep that idea in mind and make some "safe money" with something else first - then come back and work on that adult-stumbleupon project without any pressure.

I disagree. I have no reservation saying I enjoy porn ... or even hardcore porn. Big deal. Damn near everyone enjoys porn.

And the simple fact that everyone here (as you mentioned) is NOT using their real names lends credence to their opinions. If they WERE listing their real names ... then I might agree. But everyone here is (by and large) anonymous.

If you Google my name ... THIS post is not going to show up.

Yes ... there are adult industry forums out there ... YNot.com comes to mind right off the top of my head ... but why would he want to float the idea THERE ...?

Assuming (arguendo) that is WAS a good idea ... why post it in a forum populated by adult industry entrepreneurs who are light years ahead of him in the money, know-how and business end ...? That would be NUTS (imho).

Even HERE I am somewhat guarded in what I do ... talking only in very vague terms (even though few if anyone here is in my line of business). MJ did a real nice thread about this topic. I don't recall what the title was ... but I sure as hell remember the message.

So I stand by my original analysis. There are so many unmet needs out there. Don't blind yourself to them because this is something you "want" to do.

Dennis may say "go for it" ... but at the end of the day ... it's your time ... and your money. I say "go for" something else. :)

I just realized my last sentence of "Do this" can be misinterpreted. It does not mean "Go for it".
Just to clarify, OP, "Do this" means ask the adult community if they'd be interested, rather than the business community.

Good questions to ask the business community are: "would this be a good idea?" and "what challenges would I face if I tried to start this".
Asking us "would YOU use it?" is largely a bad idea on a public place where people discuss business.
Regardless of who is/isn't using a their real name, there's still selection bias based on the audience you chose to ask this question to.

Work on your insecurities. You're acting like ideas/needs are scarce and that everyone is going to steal your stuff if you aren't super-careful (read: "paranoid").
You're acting from a place that assumes that there is "not enough to go around" - in particular "money".
Money is one of the most abundant things on this planet.
Last time I checked, almost every Nation on this planet PRINTS money. And there's new money printed every day.
You WILL get your fair share of that money if people like your stuff, so stop worrying.

Or maybe you're already rich, in which case you need to "let go" of your paranoia even more.
What kind of life is that where you have enough "coin" to afford nice things but can't enjoy it because you're constantly afraid of minor stuff like "Someone's going to take my idea".

If you're confident that you are delivering the best damn service in your field, you wouldn't really be afraid of competition, would you?
There are 7 Billion People on this planet and some of them are just waiting to throw money at you regardless of whether somebody else has had the same idea - even if they "stole" that idea from you.

"elance.com" might be a good source to get some coders.

That's nice. I'm still not running my mouth. You want to broadcast what you are doing ...? Be my guest. Not me. What you call paranoid I call prudent. Even unsuccessful copycats raise your advertising costs and cause consumer distrust. Far be it from me to invite that nonsense into my life. I prefer to remain guarded.

Fair enough ;-)
I don't like unnecessary hassle, drama or other complications in my life, either.
I just happen to think "Guarding" can turn into a hassle at some point as well.
Comes down to balance, or finding that "sweet-spot", probably.

Going to the other end of the spectrum and telling every single person about my business ideas doesn't seem very cool either. Too much of a hassle as well haha.
But when someone asks I'd always talk about them openly, no biggie ;-)

I'm not sure I would use it. As others have said, it's not hard to find exactly what you want from the existing video sites.

The latest project I created is a cross-browser bookmarking site with a good feature for hiding links by saving them under a separate link space. It also allows you to watch the videos right on the bookmarks page, by embedding them automatically. I'm starting to think the project may have been a bad idea (not enough NEED), although I've been wondering whether I should focus on targeting porn watchers because of the ability to hide links so they don't show up while browsing through their bookmarks.
