If you had a way that you think you could improve the product of another business, could you patent your idea and sell it to them? If so, would this even be a consistent way to make a profit?

Ok just read it. Yes it could work and yes you could definitelt patent and sell it. But you have to know a few things first.
-what would be the value to the companies: would they even care enough about it to buy it? For how much? And how much would it help them? How easily can that advantage be seen (or shown)
And also
Is there a reason they dont do this? What if you think your idea is great but its already been tested and has failed (for reasons you dont know yet) very possible.
Also i remember hearing about some people who would just do this, patent, sell, license, sell.
the point is, doable but do your reasearch

Something you can do is patent it and make licensing deals for royalties.

You can sell the patent for cheaper and then ask for a royalty.

Your going down the path of licensing, im pretty sure there are a bunch of books and tips on that.

Best of luck and I like your idea!
