I know nothing about insurance, but my cousin is an agent at IOA and I forwarded this over.
He said it's not entirely uncommon for a commercial event, but not at a resort unless it's for pyrotechnics. (atomic bomb anyone???)
Additionally, he says the risk management team may have up the ante with the staff recently, and they could be confused as to what our group is. Typically if you clarify, especially having rented the venue prior, they'll get off their high horse.
Otherwise, there's someone at his office that can write a short policy.
