I love a good 1911, springfield or kimber has been my choice, all depends on your price range and what your looking for. However, if the shit were to hit the fan I would pick a match grade springfield XD 40. It shoots no matter what and you have a solid 16+1 to get the job done.

The more successful you get, and the more people know about it, the more haters you will accumulate. For better or worse, that's just how it is. You either learn how to manage it, or you don't.

Speaking for myself, haters fuel me. Unfortunately I have a trolling attribute to my personality that I try to manage (obviously without as much success as I would hope) and haters get me going. When I make even more money I gain a sadistic pleasure to announce it to rub it in their faces. It's one of my many personality flaws.

Absolutely. I feel no need to rub it in to anyone except the people who get all butt hurt about my success, screw them.

Gotta love the 1911. I was always kind of a "combat pistol" man myself. Like Sigs, HKs and Glocks. I am really finding myself wanting a Wilson or a Kimber 1911 these days... Classy!

I have the 1911 self defense system, very affective. Don't need a fancy one, just one that's reliable and shoots straight.

Off topic: but since we are on 1911's, I do not own a 1911 yet, what 1911's handle hollow points the best without significant feeding problems; jamming? Been reading reviews and so far buying a different clip that is not stock seems to help some with the 1911's; what ammo do you use for yours?

I do not own one yet either. I, however, have never had any jamming problems with any of my firearms. This is because I do not expect to get a good gun under $500. How much is your life worth to you? The cheapest handgun I will ever buy is a Glock.

Now, some good brands that I know would be very nice include: Springfield, Kimber, Wilson, Les Baer, Sig Sauer (unconventional, but one of my favorites), para ordinance, Colt (of course), Dan Wesson.

I am looking to get a 2 Kimbers in about 6 months once our congress shoots down the gun legislation and there is low demand. I don't need another gun I have plenty. Many of these alarmists don't have even one yet and will pay out the a$$ for them right now.

I want a super carry custom and a super carry ultra plus. They run the same magazines. Eventually I will put my sig and glock stuff on my boat.

The super carries are nice. I am looking at this Super Carry Pro HD. I like the 4" barrel and 8 round capacity. Feels great in the hand. Handles are rounded also. I would ask around about shooting hollow points in these, but some have problems and some don't; I have heard of feeding problems with gold dots (JHP) ammo; Kimber recommends a minimum of 500 rounds of ball ammo for break in, so I probably wouldn't shoot any hollow points until its broke in. I like the Para ordinance as well.

I would think any narrower design is a better bet for the loading ramps anyway. I love gold dots with theor wide hollowpoints in my 357 sig because it is a bottlenecked cartridge design that will never have loading problems. I use hornady ammo with the polymer ball stuffed into the hollowpoint for all of my other guns.

I may go with the new Glock 30SF currently. Kak, if you want to blow the coin and want one of the best...I would skip the Kimber's entirely and go for the upgrade 1911...Ed Brown. Many Kimber owners upgrade to Ed Brown, which is great for the 1911 commander. Dan Wesson is a good choice on 1911's. Les Baer is the upgrade custom on the Springfield's I believe.

I am a huge fan of Ed Brown 1911s. Good call, I forgot about them.

I would consider a single commander, but I usually buy my guns in pairs. This way I am not buying lots of mags and ammo for one gun. Ex: a subcompact and a full size like the Kimber setup I had mentioned. Subby with a full size mag capability and a bobtail handle.

I love the "executive elite" :D. I want to go the ed brown route for sure!

I have a shoulder holster for my Sig P226 357 sig bitone. I carry it in a suit all the time. I go gun on left and 2 spare mags on right. It hides VERY nicely.

The thing is, when I am in a suit, I am usually going into the city. It is much more dangerous than my upscale suburb, I carry just a Sig P238 around home.

I had to pay for a Gatorade through a drawer under bulletproof glass the other day.

You know many novice shooters knock the smaller calibers, but it is the ammo that makes the difference IMO.

For home defense, I favor the 12 gauge tactical with 00 high velocity Fiocchi....one and done!!!

I like the accuracy of 357 sig. It has the punch of a 40 with accuracy out to much farther distances and can penetrate all kinds of fun stuff.

Plus, it is easier to find ammo during times like these.

We have several guns, at various locations throughout the house. The next house I buy or build will have a concealed gun safe in the wall.

However, my nightstand gun of choice is a Ruger LCR (light compact revolver) with .38 hollow points and a crimson trace laser sight. If someone ever make it as far as my bedroom or outer area of the room (which is doubtful) the last thing they will ever see is a red laser dot on their chest or their face.

I actually prefer firing this gun with wad cutters due to the complete lack of recoil with the wad cutters, but there's something comforting about having the hollow points in the middle of the night. I am a little concerned that I practice with a lighter load than I would use in a real life situation. However, if I ever carry this gun conceal carry I probably would have it preloaded with the wad cutters. I think accuracy would trump firepower in the event of a street type emergency.

Hope I never have to use it... but am fully prepared to do so. I took Minnesota's permit to carry course a few months ago, and need to stop by and get my conceal carry permit so I can roll with something in my truck.

In February, I plan to buy a new handgun. Open to suggestions, but looking for something light weight and with a decent sized clip (might as well get one now before they get even more regulated in 2013...)

I wouldn't worry about it this time... It would require conservative support pretty much out until redistricting. It won't happen. There are even pro gun dems that wont support.

I would wait about 6 months for this crap to die down and stores to catch up. Sig, Beretta (92) and HK are my 3 favorite hi-cap pistol brands.

Since everyone is talking about guns, check out this awesome gun concealing book shelf. I'm from Canada and rarely anyone has a gun, gun violence are super rare, and those that do happen are between gangs who illegal get their guns from US.

I don't know what caliber your looking for but the new Glocks are pretty nice. I am looking at the Glock 30sf its a .45, its got a 10 round mag. Of course if you want all the bullets you can carry a 9mm is always a good option. Lots of opinions on this, but the only thing I don't recommend is chambering the Glock for a carry gun unless your an advanced shooter; the trigger is the actual safety, if the trigger gets snagged on something you can shoot yourself lol. 1911's have the slimmest profile, and an actual safety, but most have a 7-8 round mag. I figure if you cant do your business with 8 rounds your screwed anyway. Might look at the HK45 compact also. Kimber has one called the Solo Carry...its a 9mm micro.

Ah, the good O'l Springfield XD...I got one of those...haha!

UPDATE: I was referring to the pistol in the vehicle mounted holster. Oh and I stopped leaving my guns in my truck b/c that's the main way criminals get them! They steal them out of people's vehicles!

Im giving a 1hr gun operation and safety presentation to about 20 old rich housewives tomorrow for $100 per pop.:D There was a burglary spree ove the weekend in their neighborhood. My parents live there LOL. I will pitch 500/hour glock range lessons at the presentation. And also pitch them all on residential energy.

Purpose is to make them be comfortable defending themselves at home while husbands are gone.

The husbands own companies that use energy. Hmm what a paid networking day. :D

Sometimes you wonder if 20 housewives running around with Glocks makes it more or less safe; hope the husbands show up for some pointers so they can defend themselves also...probably from the wives :)

Purpose is to make them be comfortable defending themselves at home while husbands are gone.

I agree with that. Husbands would feel better about leaving them at home as well.

I find men don't give a crap what anyone has to say about it.

It doesn't matter if they have ever shot a gun in their life, there are 3 kinds of guys:

Guys that can actually shoot, guys that act like they can out-shoot a Navy Seal but shoot the wrong target "by accident", and guys that are too big of wussies to ever try it.

If I were you, I would find a gun club near you that has a combat shooting club, you will learn to shoot under stress which is huge.

A simple exercise you can do now is do 10-20 push-ups, get up run to the target and start the shooting exercise, one thing to do is mix in a run, basically you want your hearty rate up, because this will simulate a shoot situation.

As for what type of gun to carry that's up to you, myself I prefer a .40 or .45, especially glock 23 or 27. The most important thing is to remember that proper grip leads to proper sight alignment, what that means is if the gun is too small it may hinder your ability to shoot. Hope this helps roc
