My father has a bank in our area of the world. It is a small community bank, however it does well and makes us money. As of now I am the heir to the throne. Some would say to instantly take it since it is already set up for me, and I will be a millionaire at a very young age. However the bank is in a very small community. Not much is going on in it. As a young 22 year old, I want to be living in a vibrant place, meet lots of friends, lots of girls, and lots of fun experiences. I feel I will be slaving away my 20s in a boring town, despite the great income. Would you recommend keeping the bank? Or going my own way?

Keep the bank. Hire the best talents to do most of the work and report to you while you go about doing what you love the most. Really, you're lucky to have a father who worked so hard to own a bank, please don't F*ck it up.

It boils down to what your heart says. Understanding your situation I feel that you are more inclined towards the creative side and less towards a monotonous banking business.

Do what your heart says because that's where you will find satisfaction. People with lot's of money are also not satisfied with their life. Because they never follow their heart. But here is the catch - Your choice shouldn't harm anyone else. Meeting new people and finding your calling is your birthright and you should go for it. The only thing is to talk to your family members and make them clear that if you don't take over your family business then are they fine with it? And if not then what is the mutual conclusion you both parties can talk out that benefits both.

If you can push then try to get the best of both the worlds. You will be rich but don't use that money. Instead the money to survive not to LIVE. To LIVE you life follow your heart route.

I appreciate your courage to ask these questions. It's not easy for most of them to easily give up money and talk about their calling. Best of Luck!

If I have a dad that owns a community bank I will take over that immediately. You have a dream position that people couldn’t get. It is much harder to start things from scratch than to manage an already proven business with client base.

As an established businessman you can drive to a big city and make friends easily during your free time. Just pick up the tap and buy them drinks in bars and hand them your name cards. People in big cities are Practical and status chasing. You get to pick who you want to be friends with and which girl you want to date.

I assume you are just out of college based on your age. In big cities there are a lot of young people but as a matter of fact most do not have time to socialise and know people. The corporate job will take its toll on the soul and most of them will spend their free time lying on bed playing their phones, occasionally going out with their good friends they they know since high schools. The only new people they know are their colleagues at work. Big city is a like a Economic Machine. You probably will be disappointed if you are looking for something exciting through renting a place and work for a company in a big city. It resembles nothing like college experience.

On a side note this is really interesting as I created a thread months ago about taking over baby boomers business as their children are not willing to take up the business.
