Scrooge is portrayed as this evil selfish businessman but is he really a bad guy?
Every Christmas since I can remember we watch some kind of Scrooge film (almost always the muppets Christmas Carol
) and I always saw him as the bad guy. However, since being a business owner myself and reading the fastlane and unscripted , I now see him as the victim and here’s why...
He provides a service (mortgages) to hundreds of people and makes some money along the way. Win win for everyone.
He doesn’t give to charity but then neither do I. He acknowledges that a proportion of the taxes he pays goes to good causes which in the UK a lot does. But because people know he’s got a lot of money, they expect him to pay more, even though he’s already contributing a lot in regards to taxes, employment and the service he provides.
He keeps him self to him self. Yea he’s maybe not a family guy and doesn’t believe in Christmas but let’s be fair, most people who celebrate it either aren’t religious and/or couldn’t really tell you why they celebrate it.
Everyone assumes he’s rich. But for all we know he may just bring in a modest amount of profit each year and just prefers to live basic life. He’s only seen as being a good person at the end of the film once he starts giving it away, even though a lot of the people he gives it away to probably live a happier life than him.
Im interested to here what everyone else’s thoughts are on this...
