Precursor to the book "The Intelligent Investor"?

Hey all,

I just started reading "The intelligent investor" and I'm about 35 pages in and feel like I have no idea what I'm reading. I've invested on and off for a few years, made a few thousand, but nothing crazy, so I'm not totally new to investing, but is there perhaps another book that would help me understand what I'm reading in "the intelligent investor"? Like any precursors to it?

Appreciate any recommendations.

I read this book my junior year of college and felt the same way. Just look up words on investopedia and read slowly.

If you figure out investing vs. speculating, then you’ve got the main message of the book. Don’t worry about preferred stock, convertible stock, all that stuff. A lot of it isn’t even that relevant today.

Also note the criteria for stock selection. Especially the fact that they almost always choose companies that pay dividends - it is very hard to determine the value of an asset that pays you nothing.
