I have my first product ready for export from Canada to the US but im stumped on shipping. Generic carriers like UPS and FedEx cost a fortune, there have got to be better options. My current options are:

    1. Use a generic carrier like UPS, FedEx, or DHL. They're quoting me roughly $1000 CAD to have it shipped to where i need to.
    2. Figure out how i can get my product over the border myself using a customs broker and have it delivered to a 3PL warehouse from where UPS will pick it up.

The other questions are concerning the paperwork. My product is worth 1750 USD, which is what i paid for it. I know the formal limit in Canada is $2500 but what does this exactly mean? Does it mean i dont need a commercial invoice, BOL, and country of origin on the import? Does it mean that i dont need to provide my SSN to the customs broker?

Whats your method to have the product shipped to the states from canada?

Sounds about right. Do you already have a broker in place?

Check out secureship - they may have better prices from the big carriers.

Canada post is also usually the cheapest for most situations.

Just ship it to the destination. Don't overthink it right now. Hit up Canada post or whatever, fill out the customs forms with proper values (replacement value, not retail value, at least that's what I always do) and reason for shipping (I usually say "goods for sale" or whatever), buy whatever insurance you want, if any, and ship it off.

Also the formal entry requirements are to the country you are exporting to, not from. Canada's limits don't apply to you (I don't think) but the USA does (they may be the same, but it's worth noting this difference anyway).

I wouldn't even use a broker if it's not strictly necessary in this case.

I have a broker that i used for the overseas shipment that i was planning to use for exporting to the US. One reason I'm stalling is because they're requesting my SSN which i don't feel too happy about providing. Trying to find as much info as possible to see if this is my only way out first.

I'll definitely check them and Canada post out. I completely forgot about Canada post, i remember they price gouged me in the past so i overlooked them. You have a valid point though, over complicating this. I just need to ship this out asap and focus on making it more efficient after.
