Hey Everybody,

I have been browsing through this forum for the past couple months and have also recently finished reading TMF . My buddy recently turned me on to the fastlane life and the book. I have always thought about starting something on the side to bring in some extra cash, but after my buddy telling me about the TMF I now have a whole new look on life and what I can make of it.

I am currently living in the the slowlane life in the Philadelphia area and am a engineer for the govt. I am making good money and am happy to say I like my job but obviously if I stick with this job, I will never be able to enjoy my life to the fullest. I will be working 40 hour work weeks until im 60 (if I even make it until then) and then I will be able to finally enjoy what little life I have left with the money I have been saving my whole life. This does not sound appetizing to me, even though society and even my family has brought me up making me believe this is the way life is. Thanks to my friend and TMF, I now realize there are other ways.

I have already learned a great deal from this forum, and hope to learn plenty more in the future. I just wanted to give a quick thanks to MJ and to everyone else on this forum for all of the knowledge I have gained already and for all of the knowledge I will be gaining from you in the future.

Thanks,
Sean

Sean,

Hey man, do you own a Corvette or a Viper? We used to call Mustang Cobras, "slobras" ... ha ha.

Just curious, welcome to the board.

Hey MJ,

I actually own a 96 Mustang Cobra, I've always callled it a Slobra since I got it. Most people don't get it, I'm glad you noticed it though haha. One day soon it will be able to hang with the Vipers and Vettes haha.

Thanks,
Sean

I'm an engineer by training too. :) And in my humble opinion, everything starts with self, and this mean we shall begin thinking ourselves as someone in process of switching and accelerating in the fastlane... :) Just what I thought will be useful to move forward. :)

Hey Wasabi,

Thanks for the reply. I agree, I am beginning to realize how much I want the fastlane and am starting to begin making some moves so this happens. For example, In August I began taking classes to get my Masters (this was before I really knew much about the Fastlane). I was all for it because my work pays for it and it will help me become more knowledgable here at work. However, now that my mindset has changed I am starting to question whether sticking with going for my Masters is really worth it? I mean if I was to stay in the slowlane the rest of my life then it will be great, but for the fastlane it will not help me out one bit. With all that time I spend doing hw and studying, I can instead put it towards the fastlane. I have to make the decision soon whether I want to keep taking classes, or stop and put all that time towards the fastlane.

Thanks,
Sean

I do not work for PennDOT, I actually work for the Navy. It's a cool job and I really like it, but it's not the fastlane life I want.

Hi Sean,

We grew up thinking and behaving as a slowlaner and while we work to transform ourselves, it is not something that can done with a flip of a switch. :) If you are in the situation where you feel like quiting your course one day while staying put the next, why not use what MJ taught in TMF for making BIG decision? :)

There is just 1 thing I did to make it work better. I do it 3 or 5 times (at different time) and see which is the favored decision. It is useful to filter out "emotional noise" which may skew the result. :)
You can

It's a cool job and I really like it, but it's not the fastlane life I want.

If you like your job, you are winning half the battle. The "fastlane life" is a process as well. If you won't enjoy that work (thankless hours of unpaid work, risk, customers etc.) than seriously reconsider. What I'm saying here is this: If you don't enjoy your process, your work, your daily trials, being on your own won't meet your expectations.

Take a look here about happiness in which I explain about being broke and happy:

Can Money Buy Happiness? I Dunno; Can it Buy Brocolli and Cookies?

This exemplifies being happy in the process (even while broke) -- the monetary success amplified the happiness.

You must be happy within the journey, as well as the destination.

Glad you like it. :D It is actually a green plant and tastes like mustard. Wasabi is used on sashimi and I like the taste of this.. For most people, it is either you like it or hate it.

Thanks for the input MJ, I completely agree with you. I still do have a lot of decisions to make, but I agree I should only pursue the fastlane if I am going to enjoy the journey and I know I will.

Thanks,
Sean

Thanks for the help Wasabi and great idea. I will be doing this, I think it will make the decision a lot easier and eliminate me second guessing myself.

Thanks,
Sean
