Vanguard is consistently one of the highest, plus low management fees.

You may also want to look at special deals on short term (90 day) CDs.

We just put some dough in Merrill Lynch.

Rate was 3.6 APR.

Nice. That'll be about the easiest $30k you've ever made ;)
Nah. We're paying like 7% on the money (part of our cash out refi for our development projects).

This way, we just lose *less* each month! :smx8:

Easiest money I ever made was when the president of MTV sent me a check for $10,000, for some work I wasn't going to bill him for.

Attached to the check was a note: "Here, have lunch on me."

What a guy! :icon_super:

Bankrate.com lets you search for the currently highest yielding MMAs or CDs. It's a really cool service. Just watch out for introductory interest rates, service fees or other shenanigans before opening any accounts, especially with some of the no-name banks on there.

TheGreatBear, how would someone go about getting a risk free return of 4% on Chinese yuan?

I would be very worried about placing money with banks offering the highest yield on money market accounts and CDs. These are the banks most desperate for capital and at the highest risk of going under. Case in point IndyMac and Countrywide who offered above market rates.

Placing your money in or rather under Mattress Bank :) is the way to go in these trying times !

Other than that I personally like ING (everything is done online). Fidelity is good too ( no subprime exposure )
