I'm always glad to see new interest in photography, but what you're asking for is not very specific and as such will not yield specific advice. What exactly are you looking to achieve when you say you want to "start doing photography?" Do you have specific goals? Are you looking to achieve a specific look/style/feel? Do you have pictures that you're not happy with that I/we could critique and give pointers on how to improve?

We all need to start somewhere. When I first got into photography, I would browse flickr and photography forums to find really cool photos and then attempt to recreate and improve on them. If you stumble upon a photo that blows your mind and you have no idea how it was taken, contact the photographer and ask how it was done. Photogs typically love to talk about how they created a complex shot (trust me, I know :) ) Then set out to do it yourself.

I say this all the time, but it's what's behind the camera (the photographer) that counts. Even cheap P&S (point and shoot) and cellphone cameras can produce stellar images when in the right hands. So don't think you need to drop thousands of dollars right away in order to get quality photos.

I highly recommend browsing the forums over at fredmiranda.com: Specialized in Canon - Nikon SLR Cameras, Forum, Photoshop Plugins, Actions, Reviews, Hosting and Digital Darkroom. More friendly talent over there than you can shake a stick at.

Hmm what goals? I want to take shots and be able to say "wow I'm an artist"! Thanks for asking. I just want to add a new hobby in my life and I thought photography would be cool.
