My Experiment with the 4HWW Muse: It kinda worked? Not really.

A post of a ranting nature...

Hi guys,

I realise tim's muse idea comes up here every now and then. I thought I'd post about my experience trying to make one.

Funnily enough, I had similar experience trying to make a non-muse ecommerce store. I have an overview of that experience here.

Interestingly the problems that arose with the muse experiment seem to be the same as the normal ecommerce store experiment!

I hope this helps those who are curious!

Why is this a rant? This tidbit from that site sums up exactly why it didn't work:

"Being lazy meant I chose an crappy product to begin with. The product isn’t particularly competitive or captivating. With a better product and product design, I could expect better conversions. -How about selling something that the market is searching for??

Furthermore, if the product had been more expensive with better margins then it could have been easier to make a profitable muse. For instance, if the product had given me $51 profit per customer, then the business would have at least generated $1 per purchase given that my crappy marketing cost about $50 per customer.

This also reinforces the need to give more attention to the advertising campaign. An ad campaign needs to be carefully planned and executed in order to be profitable and effective. This would be helped by both a professional AdWords manager, and a product with better margins." -You don't seem to have a grasp of the fastlane mindset. Who on this forum started with "professional" advertising managers?!

You can have a product thats a home run and you will lose out on a good bit of money in your initial marketing attempts. The whole point is to gather data and optimize... You just turned it on, saw a low CTR, and turned it right off.

ou don't seem to have a grasp of the fastlane mindset.

I like this comment. I think there needs to be a 'THAT'S SLOWLANE' button installed here somewhere.

Moving on. This wasn't a complaint. Its marked as a rant since it isn't really much else than a commentary on how it went down.

Anyway, I hope the few of you who are interested in muses found it interesting or useful. I think it pretty easily pinpoints some weak areas in my own execution that you could use to make your own plan more solid.

Cheers!
