I don't watch tv, but indulge in movies on occasion and I'm looking for movies that are similar in idea/substance as:

Boiler Room
Wall Street
Wall Street Money Never Sleeps
Limitless
The Pursuit of Happyness

I'm tired of sports movies (rudy, remember the titans, etc), I generally despise science fiction, and I want some that focus on people making money, running businesses, etc.

Stuff like this makes me happy **warning: lots of swearing**

Gracias :D

If you liked "Pursuit of Happyness" you might like "Seven Pounds". I enjoy Will Smith and it added some variety to my movie watching.

Also, a few of my personal favorites:
1) The Big Lebowski
2) Ocean's 11
3) Office Space
4) Pulp Fiction
5) Lucky Number Slevin
6) V for Vendetta
7) The Matrix

Ditto on American Gangster - great movie highlighting Fastlane concepts, albeit in an illegal fashion. (Definitely NOT recommended!)

Also Revolutionary Road -- shows the delirium of giving up on dreams and living the life everyone thinks you should be living.

The old Rocky series of movies is inspirational.
I still like to watch Top Gun occasionally.

American Beauty. Such a profound movie about a middle aged man who lived a sidetracker's life and finally ditched it all to man up and enjoy life. Not really fastlane financially, but fastlane physically and somewhat spiritually.

Check out Middle Men. It's not as renowned of a movie, but it does star Giovanni Ribsi of the "Boiler Room" fame. The main actor is Luke Wilson. It's a Fastlane movie no doubt, and the method is legal too though they got involved in the wrong crowd. It revolves around the teachings of MJ to make something even better if the service sucks. In this case, the protagonist simply joined forces, and partnered up. It also shows how partners can be detrimental to your success.

"Chronicles Jack Harris, one of the pioneers of internet commerce, as he wrestles with his morals and struggles not to drown in a sea of conmen, mobsters, drug addicts, and pornstars."

The Bank is a good movie. It's about a mathematician who creates a program that can predict the stock market and the company that tries to use it for their own plans. Had to watch it for one of my business ethics classes and really enjoyed it.

Watch all the Mad Men seasons. Mad Men is on Netflix ( I don't watch TV). I watched all 4 seasons within a 2 week period. Each season has 13 episodes and the episodes are about 48 minutes each. That's a whole lot of entertainment. Greatest TV series ever.

I watched 'Blow'. Pretty good movie.

I also watched 'Inside Man' THAT WAS AMAZING. I had no idea what was going to happen next, and was surprised each time.

One that wasn't mentioned but that I found and watched was 'Lord Of War' while googling 'Viktor Bout'...the movie is about an international arms dealer. Great great movie.

-> Mad Men
-> Scarface
-> Wall Street (the first one only)
-> Schindler's List
-> The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

For entertainment purposes:
-> I've watched the first part of Cowboy vs. Aliens ... seems as a good movie.
-> Reservoir Dogs
-> The Panic Button
-> The Descent

You can learn a lot of stuff from these movies too, even if it's not business oriented.

Oh, and James Bond. Especially good if you want to build presence.

I'm not a big fan of learning from movi
es but I indulge myself in a good movie once a week.

If you want to go to the other side and read a good book ...

-> Those in Peril by Wilbur Smith (AMAZING BOOK ABOUT ACHIEVING YOUR PURPOSE)
-> Tai Pan by James Clavell
-> Some Stephen King

And a special list of movies ...
-> K Pax
-> The man from earth
-> The Twelve Monkeys
-> The Godfather (I don't really like it but it contains some good lessons)
-> Lord of war
-> The aviator
-> The Lincon Lawyer
-> Limitless
-> Alice in wonderland (don't laugh, this movie is great)
-> Maybe Sucker Punch ...
-> Top Gun
-> The Rock

I also like some of Romero's movies.

All right, I'll chime in.

My top 4:

Papillon
American Beauty
There will be blood
and maybe The Graduate

I highly recommend Papillon, in my humble opinion the best movie ever made.

I've recently watched Margin call...

Just watched this film after the mention of it in multiple threads.

Margin Call - "Set in the high-stakes world of Wall Street, MARGIN CALL is an entangling thriller involving the key players at an investment firm..."

It's a high drama cliff hanger in the financial world, set somewhere on the map between survival mode, business guys, rich guys, good guys, bad guys, and gray hat moral ambiguity. This review sketches it out:

Amazon review:

Excellent, but brainy and low-key - 5.0 out of 5 stars

Up-front warning: there are no exploding cars, steamy sex scenes or "You can't handle the truth!" catch-phrases in this remarkable movie. Don't get me wrong, I like that type of movie, but this is something different. It's a drama, not a melodrama. It's a reality show about actual reality, which unlike most reality shows, usually moves along in an orderly fashion.

If you've never been a manager in a serious company, it might not appeal to you. As an ex-software company exec, I can say it felt real to me. I found the story exciting, because I could relate to the characters and their understated pain. Many things are shown, rather than stated. For example, they work all night long in their suits, but no one ever talks about going home, or the hours, etc. If you've been in a management crisis and experienced a long hellish night, you'll feel this movie in your bones.

The best part was the placement of the viewer in the shoes of the company execs. Imagine your place of work for 20 or 30 years going down in flames around you. If you are a teacher, imagine the school is going to close at the end of the week forever if you make the wrong choice tonight. Every kid in your school will never be educated if you fail. The only way to possibly save yourself and your students is to lie your a$$ off. That is not a fun place to be, and that's the tension behind the film.

On a final note, I didn't sense an overt political viewpoint from the filmmakers. I didn't feel this was a hit-piece on Wall Street or anyone else. It was dramatized and probably shrunken down in time-scale, but quite believable. I found that refreshing.

Blow is one of the most underrated movies of all time.
Lawless is not really about making money, but its a great movie compared to what has come out the last few years.
