I've been busy doing just about everything but writing my own stories this week, but thought I'd better update before I forget where I am.
First, after publishing the first novella in a planned trilogy, I dashed off a short story prequel to use as a perma-free intro to the trilogy. I'm not sure that was a great idea, because the writing style is different, as about half of the short story is written from the POV of the trilogy's MC when she was only seven years old. The rest is the POV of the cold and distant mother and contains a graphic scene. I don't know that it will result in sales of the book, although I've had one Goodreads commenter say she's going to buy the book this weekend. [Crossing fingers--after the first day, poof, nothing.]
In my ghostwriting gig, I threw a hissy fit because the story line wasn't well enough developed to make any progress and I was getting frustrated. We've decided to put that book on hold and work on something else that I'm really excited about, but can't talk about. In the process of preparing for that, I decided to finally look into this snowflake method that everyone talks about. I found a lot of it too tedious to even consider, but the scene mapping in a spreadsheet really looks to be valuable. I am targeting word count based on the beat sheet for the same work, and have since also done that for the second book in my trilogy, which was giving me some writer's block problems. So, I'm excited to think that this could help both improve the books and speed the writing after the planning stage.
Then this morning, noticed a tip from RAWR about a book that has improved his/her writing and bought it. Very excited about it. See https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/showthread.php/48596-Worth-it-s-weight-in-gold. I've read the front matter and now have a Kindle reading app open on my workspace so I can look up any emotion I want to show instead of tell. That's going to improve it even more. It's tempting me to re-write the first title, but I should wait until I'm finished and re-write before I bundle, if at all. So much to do! So little time!
Happy writing, all you peeps. Next update will be publication of the second trilogy book unless sales take off and make me a load of money before then.
