So this is a new idea I had and would love honest, harsh feedback.

The basic premise is an online marketplace for start-ups who have been in business 1 year or less. Businesses post their products in the marketplace for people to buy, and the selling point for the consumer would be buying products from new companies. The idea came about after seeing so many start-ups in my area struggle to try and get their product into stores. I wouldn't limit it to only a certain sector, but open it up to whomever wants to sell their product, as long as they meet the criteria of being a start-up and being in business 1 year or less.

So it's sort of like Kickstarter? What happens to the companies when they reach the one year mark. Do they get kicked off the site. What if this site is their only source of sales and then you just kick them off? I get that the idea is to get them recognition so they probably won't have to keep selling on your site, but what are you going to do to make it so their customers can keep finding them? Maybe a section for businesses that have moved?

Kinda of like Kickstarter, but more like Etsy in that its a company selling their product. Obviously the goal is to get these companies recognized with users, and hopefully keep them a float as they are just starting up. Much like an incubator the cutoff date would be 1 year and then we would send them on their way. In that way its like a kickstarter as we provide them the space for a certain amount of time, and after that time is up they will no longer be visible on the site. We could have a section of "alumni" where we list links or locations where past members can purchase their products. Thanks for the feedback

Seems like a good idea. There is an easy way to launch this... Get webhosting, $9/mo, get a domain name, $10/year, get phpLinkdirectory, $55, build it and see how people adopt the idea. Before you go and spend gobs of $$ on building the back end, just charge small biz a one-time fee, and see if you can grow it. Less than $100 gets you online and built.

If there is a marketplace for it, then you can start upping the fees:

- $5/mo to list your products/service for current customers ($60/year, maybe discount for annual subscribers $30/year - save 50%)
- Use PayPal or something convenient (and if PP, use subscriptions/recurring)

I think it should have some wheels... Look at biz models like AppSumo (they partner with existing business or new business, offer a deep discount, take a % of the deal and make $).

If the thing takes off, you can infuse cash to build a better platform, or expand phpLD.

It could work if you have the traffic to attract the sellers and the buyers. That wont be easy.

I agree here traffic is never as easy as it seams to be. You will need a ton of promotion using you time or money to hire someone. It is a nice idea though

There's web host company that offers 6 months free hosting will full features and free domain name... i will search for it and put it here later.

my question is... if i am the consumer, i really don't care if the company is new or not, right? if i need or want the product, i will buy it. so, what is the value you are offering me?
