@Vigilante ...how's rooting for the Bucs workin' out for ya?

Well, let's see.

  • I live where people vacation
    I went to the game yesterday, and sat in the front row lower level directly behind the visiting bench at the 40 yard line
  • I sat with my wife, who is more beautiful today than she was yesterday, and she wore a buccaneers tank top
  • I watched some amazing athletes deliver some vicious hits
  • I got to see the top 2 draft picks from this year's NFL draft play their first game
  • I watched some amazing cheerleaders
  • I drank some great beer that is only available in a few southern states
  • There was a breeze coming in off the Tampa Bay, cooling down what was otherwise a 90 degree sunny afternoon
  • Meanwhile, my company continued churning without me
  • I left the game, and in 15 minutes was back at my house to watch the last few plays of garbage time
So, all in all, I would say pretty darn well. Doesn't really matter what the score of the game was.

How was your day?

I'm in - I prefer being in active leagues where Managers are playing an active role in managing teams, trading, etc. :)

Uhhh, weren't you the one who bailed out last year early in the season? You gonna be OK this time around?

@TheKing since we're both getting bundled out of the playoffs this week, I'd like to request a formal apology for accusations of banditry pertaining to the possible acquisition of elite big time performer Isaiah Crowell on September 22 for oversized giraffe with hands of soap Mike Evans who couldn't even score today on a New Orleans secondary that would be overmatched vs most small town ballet troupes.

@Veloce Grey trying to commit a highway robbery already :woot:

RKkcsCN.png

I'd like to thank MJ for running the league, @Iwokeup for providing weekly pain assistance in the form of new wonder drug Alinromrarbphine (at least I'm not rolling out Marcel Reece at rb-phine), and most of all my first three draft picks Andrew Luck/Brandin Cooks/Jordan Matthews for their sterling efforts in ensuring that next week I won't be sitting there watching Redzone thinking "what exactly was I doing drafting Luck, Cooks and Matthews"

Thanks everyone for allowing me the privilege of taking your moola this year with a nice 8 game winning streak to finish the season. It's been a pleasure to win the Championship Trophy and remove it from the hands of @Veloce Grey -- as I foreshadowed weeks ago, my team squeaking into the playoffs will spell certain death for all in my way.

This year was really fun -- everyone played and there were even some trades. And not one deadbeat manager-- just a lot of gun-shy managers unwilling to do trades.

Stay tuned for final results and pay days.

I'm looking to DOMINATE this season, I'll tell you whut....
I've already been testing wild new strategies on the Yahoo draft boards.

Of course none of them as wild as MJ's brilliant tactic of buying up the slowest running backs last year then going door to door asking if people were interested in trading for Toby Gerhart or Boobie Dixon. "Ah no, but hey I like that book you wrote"

I never served up these guys in a trade offer, quit lying!
While technically true.....

Three weeks into the season ya'll be crying to me looking for a decent running back.

Run me a deal I'm stacked at RB.
MJ DeMarco, Nov 11, 2014

But yeah saying you went door to door is unkind. It's more like you drove a dodgy looking ice cream truck slowly through the neighbourhood.

And the Draft Grades are in-

Draft Grades via Yahoo
A He's Such a ShowOff
A- I'm Thinkin' RBs
B+ Peanut Butter Jammer
B In Ice We Trust, Skeptical Child, Team O' Destiny, Lambo Field
B- I Got You Covered, Rabid Pink Ferrets, Huge Carrot
C+ Team Holmes
C SarcastaballAllStars, Orange Crush, Squirrels gone wild

Ah the automated report cards never fail to deliver-

"Hopefully just because this draft was average, Skeptical Child won't purchase a muscle car or jacked-up truck to overcompensate"

"Congratulations, Rabid Pink Ferrets has earned a participation award. Because that's just about all they did in this draft, participate."

"Despite selecting in the top half of the first round (sixth overall), I Got You Covered might as well have been blindly heaving darts at the draft board to decide their picks. Opponents are going to enjoy beating this team"

You should have taken Jonathan Stewart-- he would have given you immediate help. You had to make a deal for a RB -- you cannot play two QB's and one sitting on your bench is a wasted asset. I knew Bortles (or Brees) would be better than Matt Ryan who I knew was better than Sam Bradford-- all QBs I traded for.

Kinda sad that no one else was able to pull off any trades other than me, you and King.

In my other league, there was no trades --- and I tried continually. The psychological hangups are strong in Fantasy Football...
All right, nobody has been able to stop our league's resident 800 pound gorilla from getting into the playoff.

Next week in the 4th vs 5th matchup I'll have to put an end to this rampage. If it requires me running onto the field and tackling Antonio Brown myself, so be it. That goalpost managed to stop him last night and I'm roughly as fast and agile as a goalpost.

Well that was fun. Now time to get whooped in the playoffs because I don't have one single running back! :headbanger:

Yea I'm hoping I can get pass the Big Carrot and my proxy play on the NO defense so we can put your stout RB's to the test. I do believe you won the regular season though... which means, moola!

I can handle 5th after a dud top of the draft, but that page 9 trade debacle is just painful.

We both separately decided Bortles was a prime trade target with an easy schedule late in the season and owner who wasn't using him/would likely be open to trading. We both inquired about a trade. Then you actually put a deal on the table. I realised we were both after the same guy and fearing a bidding war I rolled over like a kitten and let you tickle my belly.

The end result? Well even Yahoo's robot articles can explain that....

I will say in my defense that deciding to roll with Marcel Reese wasn't out of choice, but rather necessity.
I'm trying to think of the medical equivalent of the above statement. Possibly something like.....

"Well usually I'd have sent you to surgery to fix that broken leg but the staff Christmas party was kind of overflowing into the Operating Room so rather than disturb them I just went ahead and chopped your leg off with a chainsaw"

Who's game this year?

Last year we had 12 teams and pretty much everyone stayed with it who joined.

I don't remember the fees, but it was less than a hundred bucks.

FF is a good break from your FL ventures and a nice opportunity to talk smack with fellow Fastlaners.

Post in this thread if you're interested.

NO DEADBEAT MANAGERS PLEASE.

Last year these folks played or mentioned interest..

@Veloce Grey
@Iwokeup
@bigred
@needchaser
@AllenCrawley
@ChasingPaper
@JasonR

can't remember the others...

No, I won't be that guy this year. :)

Some choice quotes:

13. DALLAS COWBOYS
You no longer have to defend Tony Romo, as most informed observers concede he’s one of the top quarterbacks in the league. But it’s been 20 years since a NFC championship appearance, DeMarco Murray is gone and, no matter the reality of Romo, the perception of him will always lead to you defending him with “yeah, but…!” And then, on top of that, you’ll lose in the playoffs because Romo is a choker. Oh, see how that works?! – CC

and

24. ARIZONA CARDINALS
The depression hits when you realize the Seattle Seahawks are always going to be in the NFC West. But two-straight 10-win seasons and the knowledge that the Seahawks success can all go away like the 49ers — poof! — should keep spirits buoyant. – CC

Naw, I'm thinking Trent Richardson with my first rounder this year.
MJ in "get TRich quick" scheme shock.

At least wasting a first round pick on TRich would qualify you to be General Manager of the Browns and Colts.

I'm wary of your drafting though. Last year Peterson was widely ranked 1st overall, somehow dropped to you at pick 7 or 8 and you passed for a Tight End. That seemed crazy until the NFL found out about his "whooping" habit a week later. You must have some source at TMZ or something.

If you pass on Gronk in the first round I'll assume you have secret knowledge of him being injured in a bedroom ceiling mirror related accident.

If there was trading I could happily trade down to 10, likely pick up Jeremy Hill or Julio, and see what I could fleece you out of for 1st overall pick.
Where you are really hurting with the 1st pick is that @MJ DeMarco will have already gotten a 2nd TE by the time you get to your 2nd pick.

Too bad @Vigilante is not in..... we could have the 1st recorded K,K opening draft strategy in history.......
