Which brings me to a question.....havent done mining yet and i wouldnt mind learning something new. I have a pretty decent PC here at the house with a busted motherboard. Would cost me around 70 bucks to replace plus the cost of the GPU. Would it make sense to do this, or go to the cloud with Azure or something>?

I believe so.

Depends on what you are mining. If you are preparing to mine BITCOINS/LITECOINS, then unless you have something specialised like an ASIC miner, it's pointless to mine with your PC.

People have built PC rigs with 10 x RADEON 7950s GPU's in order to mine and if you are intending to use an 'old' computer with an 'old' GPU, you aren't going to be able to compete.

CPU mining also appears to be out of the question (except for a few altcoins). People have found workarounds. Take the new MAXCOIN for example, it was suppose to be CPU only, but it appears that it can be mined via GPU.

You could also rent some Kh/s from people just prior to the launch of a new coin for example. That could potentially be quite effective.
