Thoughts? When do you think this might be a reality? Fears? Hopes?

It will completely revolutionize how we interact with technology. This is why Musk is a visionary.

I was hoping for more of a Ghost in the Shell future but matrix-like uplinks are okay too.

If it was anyone in the world other than Elon Musk, I'd think the person was completely insane. But, it is Elon Musk, so I'm excited.

His point about the cortex serving the limbic system is completely in line with all the behavioral economist, persuaders, and marketers who say that:

Humans are emotional creatures that use pseudo-logic to defend their emotions.

The limbic system is the president.
The pre-frontal cortex is the press secretary.

OR

The limbic system is the elephant.
The pre-frontal cortex is the elephant rider.

Successful people have figured out how to control the elephant.

Elon Musk might give everyone that power.

This is awesome!

it would be really incredible if they could hack the limbic system as well. Although that may be extremely dangerous. People could just push a button tickling their pleasure center (Nucleus Accumbens) all day like a digital pleasure tickler. That would have to be carefully regulated, as there have been experiments in rats where they hooked electrodes to rats' Nucleus Accumbens and they would just sit there all day pushing the button until they died of starvation. Although that may be a rat park situation, and in real life that may not happen.

Actually the more I think about it, hacking the limbic system is the worst things humans could do. If the system were to ever be hacked, the hackers would literally have control of your movements. I think this should be reserved for people who have serious neurological disorders. And even then should be an absolute last resort.

That would be one of the many major concerns. Should be an episode of Black Mirror.

So like heroin with the injection of a button? (With less side effects)
