I've started pressure washing in the last 40 days and have made about £725 alongside my normal job. This money has paid for the pressure I bought and a lil bit of profit so far.
To be honest I picked this on a whim because it seemed like local providers were making money and I thought at least for the summer, I could knock out a few and stack some cash along a fulltime job unless it takes off. Which is the aim anyway!
What happened:
Read @Johnny boy & @IceCreamKid posts about service businesses
Had a look around and settled on pressure washing (mainly because I saw a local guy doing it, had watched some videos on youtube of guys talking about how much they make and how they quote and knew I could do it.
Made a couple of FB posts and luckily for me the feedback loop got completed on day 1.
A lady booked me as I was doing a 50% off and I rented a pressure wash and done the job ( really nice job to start on too, was easy)
Kept posting on fb but nothing, couple of people enquired and said they'd come back later as they were due to go on holiday for a few weeks.
I have a sh*t car that's on its way out, so I'm going to invest in a van (hopefully today) because it's far easier to carry the equipment around in a van and it does look more professional. It also means I don't have to keep lugging my stuff out of the boot of a car (super annoying)
I'll also be able to fit another tool I want that should help cut down on working time and mean I can do bigger projects if it works out profitable.
I just got started with this and I'm trying to think of ways I can attract more customers and differentiate myself from the businesses out there. I don't want anyone to fix my problems for me, I just like suggestions from people with experience
Things I've noticed so far in the industry is that:
What I have learned so far:
Current Ideas:
Anyone working in this space or has wanted a service like this done from a customer perspective, I'd like to hear from you.
I know execution is the name of the game so, hoping i can drag some nuggets out of those there before me and make a better plan.
Just want to improve and provide value where possible then get a young lad or girl doing the work while I get more leads.
Thanks

Things I've noticed so far in the industry is that:
- Everyone quotes per sqm
- websites are a bit meh - (not sure this make much of a difference in this service business)
- Not seeing much in the way of google or fb ads from many companies
- Most quote in person - (not sure if this is good or bad)
What I have learned so far:
- Customers have all been women
- Customers are all employed
- 2 customers have run businesses (Child Minding, Nursery)
- 1 customer worked remotely but wasn't able to do it herself due to health issues
Current Ideas:
- Ads that take customer to my website
- Online booking forms via the website.
- Standardize pricing - (£99 for small areas, £199 for large, per sqm for bespoke XL spaces)
- Videos - talking to the customer etc - (possibly more personal - might be good for fb ads)
- Running Regular Deals - (Any size Driveway or Patio for ££)
Anyone working in this space or has wanted a service like this done from a customer perspective, I'd like to hear from you.
