I thought I would share this essay because it has a lot of correlations with UnScripted . Be warned though, it will make you uncomfortable. It takes ~30 minutes to read and I recommend giving full attention to it.
Full text of "Seneca On The Shortness Of Life"
Take-Aways:
- A 70-year old person who lived half-asleep did not LIVE a long life, but only existed for a long time.
- Many people don't take time to listen to themselves and their actual needs because we preoccupy ourselves during our free time that we pray for.
- We frivolously give away time (that we can't get back) to people, social duties and vices. Yet we hoard our money as if it's more valuable (even though it's infinite).
What are yours?
"The plight of all preoccupied people is wretched, but most
wretched is the plight of those who labor under preoccupations that
are not even their own, whose sleep schedule is regulated by some-
body else's, who walk at somebody else's pace, and who are under
instructions in that freest of all activities — loving and hating. If
these people want to know how short their life is, let them reflect on
how small a part of it is their very own." - no comment
