Hey all,
I started a river outfitter in 2017 that rents out inner tubes and kayaks on the river in the city that I live in. I have put all of my energy into this the last 5 years and have gotten it to the point where it is netting 150k plus giving me a 60k salary (average household salary in my area). Other than the labor intensive start and finish of the season, it only requires me to work about 2 days a week for about 3.5 months per year. Ive spent some energy getting the right pieces into place to allow me to not have to trade my time for money there.
What I've realized recently is that there is a ceiling that im going to hit. I can only put so many people on the river in a day. Scalability is only possible by using other stretches of river. We have a lot of plans for the future of the business and are currently designing a lodge and parking lot and adding many more outdoor recreation options. Even with all of that, I don't think it will ever be enough to get to where I want to be.
I'm considering building out an e-commerce website based solely around river activity. Kayaks, tubes, rafts, paddle boards, and all of the accessories that anyone would ever need for a river trip. I already have accounts with some distributors for my business that offer a lot of these products at about 20-45% margin.
My problem: I don't know jack shit about e-commerce and any kind of online research is packed full of "Guru's" and get rich quick schemes using amazon fulfillment or something. Its hard to sift through the BS and know what's real advice and what's not.
My website gets tens of thousands of visits per year already. I want to leverage that activity on my website and get more out of it by offering e-commerce. I don't know where to start, so I'm turning to you all, any advice would be lovely.
Thanks
