Do you think there's a direct correlation between your success on a crowdfunding site & the demand for your product?

From what I've seen, crowdfunders get a piece of the product, so they're basically getting an early bird discount.
I personally can't see why you would crowdfund a project you have no interest in buying yourself.
So this crowdfund thing basically kill two birds with one stone- you gauge demand, and at the same time get funds for your project.

What d'u think? Is there something I'm missing?

In my opinion very little amount of products that had success on crowd funding had success outside of it.*

This tells something both about products and buyers.

Maybe buyers are kind of people that naively believe that novelty is always better and they omit usability and quality that real market demands?

* real statistics would be interesting

I think there's definitely something in what you're saying.

I see people who back crowdfunded projects as maybe a bit naive.
Why would you give your money to a product that hasn't yet proved themselves?
Or maybe they just have a lot of money to throw around, who knows.

I've been reading on the paid ads threads.
I hope to launch my brand next year and am debating how best to test out market response / need to my first product.
i was trying to decide between google ads & crowdfund.
Maybe I should do both?

I think crowdfunding success mostly shows how well the people who launch the campaign built their audience before the launch.

In other words ... if you don't have an audience already and just launch, then a flop does not tell you that there is little demand for your product if you do proper marketing.

Crowdfunding is NOT an alternative to marketing. You need to drive eyeballs to your campaign somehow.

Your test should be made on your real segment of buyers.
Their response would be ultimate verification.
So I would vote for Google ads.
