I'd started a thread a few months ago about creating a PPC business, which, at the time I thought was a good road for me into the fastlane.
I gained a little success and have been managing to sustain myself without the need of a full-time job until now (I've had to take on a part time job recently)

While i've attempted to gain more clients, I haven't tried as hard as I could and I own that 100%. But I've also grown quite jaded with the digital marketing industry in general and it left me wondering 'why am I doing this ?'

I took a long, hard look at my motivations into trying to creating a digital marketing 'agency' and I realised that I was just money chasing because I didn't like my job and I didn't know what else to do. I saw it as the quickest and 'easiest' way out.

It was quick, but it certainly isn't easy.

I realised that I'm not really solving a need (there are far better agencies who do a great job already), and the vast amount of youtube videos and courses on 'how to start your own digital marketing agency' has led me to agree with the sentiments that many members here have shared about the space, like:

- It's a me too business
- It's incredibly saturated
- It's become similar to dropshipping, amazon FBA or many other low barrier to entry businesses

Not only that, it's a business that's very hard to market, difficult to scale and competition increases exponentially every week.

The positive is that my life is a lot better than when I was working a full time job and I have a lot more time now to work on other ideas.

I'm still working on gaining clients in the meantime. I have a good relationship with a small social media agency that has been getting me work and I'm part of a networking group of local businesses which I hope to gain some clients from too.

But deep down I want to use the skills that I'm learning on my own ideas and businesses, not on other peoples.

So after a couple of weeks of pondering and thinking, an Idea came to me because it was something that I needed myself. On researching it I found a company in the US doing it and they reported to have 7 figure revenues last year with 10% growth every month!

After a little more research I found only two companies here in the UK that offer the same service. One of which can be easily beaten with a better website, better marketing and better customer service.

The other will be harder, but not impossible.

So as this is a manual craft, there will be a learning curve and I'll be building the other parts of the business at the same time.

I've ordered the machinery I need and I'll have to have it In my kitchen or living room for now while I'm practicing and proving the concept.

I'm also speaking to some cardboard box specialists to get a box made in order to make this work and I spent some time at the weekend trying to prototype some packaging for the Idea.

So this is going to be my second execution thread of a unsexy and 'un-glamourous' business that I think has the potential to be a household name.

Sock darning, hand woven table cloths, spittoon making, medieval broadsword forging (more for the yard than the livingroom), rammed earth brick making... so many to choose from. I think our guy wants to keep his cards close to his chest though, and I respect that. Good luck skill!
