So basically for around two months after reading the Fastlane book (bought on January 30th) I spent a lot of time on forums and absolutely 0 time doing actual work. I've started working recently and...

I've noticed my productivity is a lot higher when I don't visit forums and other aimless surfing - it's easy to convince yourself you're doing it to learn more, but there is only so much information you need to learn in order to actually start.

Just a random thought.

I have said this countless of times here. Surfing business forums, reading business books, and watching business videos to entrepreneurs (or wanna-be entrepreneurs) are like watching TVs to average Joe's.

And as Dan Pena mentions [visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1gaes7YfZA], most people do not have the commitment for super success. Most prefer to delay the inevitable rather than doing the actual work.

It depends... if you're browsing the forums just to use up time, it's defeatist, but if you are actually learning AND are actively putting your new knowledge to use, I don't see an issue ;)

Pete's post seems like it has some good tools. I've also heard about rescue time, it does similar things. I am thinking about getting on one fo them and blocking out discussion sites.

I remember listening to one of the interviews on mixergy where the owner of a company was using an app that would pop up and ask you if what you were doing was productive or just a waste of time. It was programed so that if you went to say Facebook it would give you a couple of minutes and then pop up and say that you've been on here for x minutes are you still working. I'm not sure if was an app that was publically available or a custom one they created.

So true. Entrepreneurs are revealed, not taught. My opinion only of course.

Best regards.

I think I'm going to learn programming just so I can do that :D

I used to troll forums alot since that's how I picked up clients in my niche, since that's not an option anymore now I only browse them when I'm eating or on the weekend for an hour tops and it's only to learn.

Life's too short to spend your time idle.

Quick Rant: I never understood when people want to hang out they suggest seeing a movie. The last thing I want to do when I'm actually NOT working or working out is sit next to someone silently and stare in the same direction.

Also, an easy way to block websites that waste your time is to edit your hosts file in windows.

Just go to: C: > Windows > System32 > Drivers > etc > open "hosts" in notepad

Add a new line at the bottom and type in: 127.0.0.1
Then the hit tab four times and type in the domain you want to block yourself from like this: facebook.com

Now it looks like this:

127.0.0.1 --------------big gap------------------facebook.com

save the file and boom. That time wasting site "no longer exists".

Quick Rant: I agree so much. If I hang out with friends I want it to be a social activity, not paying 10€ to watch a flick on a huge screen with ear-blasting volume.

I try to come to the forum...learn something...go apply it to the real world...get stuck...come back to the forum for more info.

When you first get started on anything analysis paralysis is a huge problem because you never feel that you're really ready. Then you realize you don't know if you're ready or not until you actually go do it and you might just surprise yourself.
