In attending this past spring, I saw a very real need for my planned presentation: Helping men pick up chicks at a Scottsdale bar.

Think I might be in this year, Is presenting a requirement? I am more of a learner than anything, lol.

We did not make presenting mandatory this year, and I think it was a better year for it.

But here's the really amazing thing:

Each year, some of the best presentations have been from people who didn't think they had anything interesting to present. People who didn't WANT to present (hated speaking in front of a group, felt like small fish around the bigger players, etc.)

But every single year, some of my favorite presentations have been from the folks who thought they didn't have anything others would find valuable.

One year, there were a couple of teenagers who were making some serious $$$ working an online games niche. Blew us away (and totally refuted Robert Kiyosaki's "you internet people are all f*ing losers" rant, at the same meet up).

This past B&P, I loved ZDS's presentation, among others (I missed so many-- came in a day late! :smx4:).

Thing is, Lighthouse, if you tell us something you know well, but we don't-- it increases the overall level of knowledge of the group.

And it increases our appreciation of you as a member of the fastlane.

So, no, you don't have to present. No pressure there.

But do consider it. It makes for some amazing synergy, and evening conversations. You'll get feedback on stuff you never thought of.

The presenting and then getting feedback is pretty much the core of what B&P is about-- the stuff we learn about during the day is often some of the stuff we talk about at night.

Ah yes, this was the compliment to Sonya's presentation:

How to tell if a guy at a bar is a loser . . . or just a dork!

Yeah I understand but here is my issue, I am terribly hard to understand sometimes. Thus making it interesting to present because i would guess more than half of the presentation would be clarification on my part on what exactly it is I am talking about, LOL.

Maybe i could wind it out to something more broad like expanding your scale of thinking on the web and using automation.... i don't know. I guess i would maybe need to ask for suggestions on what would be beneficial to the group as a whole.

I have no issue speaking in a crowd, its just conveying the messege properly.

First, I have to make it there, because i actually hate flying.

All I can say is that you speak to Andres, and if we can understand him -- we can understand you.

It's not so bad, although my arms usually get tired around Kansas. [rim shot]

This is a misconception... u guys can't understand me... so I will continue to use Greg as my official translator.

Lighthouse, I promise to work with you in prepping the presentation so it is understandable for us the mortals, and force you to speak in English. It worked with Greg, he's almost speaking English now. Me? nah, lost cause.

Oh, and about the flying thing... we can travel together... four big glasses of scotch and we won't care less whether we are flying or not, :smxB:

WHAT?

no, no, no, that is not how it goes...

it is:

"yello, may naim is Undress"

About Greg's underwear, let's say whatever happens in your room stays in your room.

Time to start saving for the trip...

True, just actually put me to sleep. I have unnerving anxiety on flights and in the passenger seat of a car. Something about not controlling a fast moving object... LOL

It is definitely a "yello", haha. I agree about bob and gregs room. no explination needed there!

Indeed.

Exceptional if I win the dance off, and am truly single this time. ;)

Oh, and not sick the entire time.

Oh Dance {off|battle|competition}! I am in for that, i'll teach ya'll a thing or five.

Let's pick a date ASAP. I would love to get the same deal that we got this year at the Firesky. I'd like to lock it down because I think the poor economy helped in getting the rooms at great prices. We may have to up the signup a few bucks as we went slightly overbudget.

ah yes, we had true martyrs in our midst this year... nothing like a guy selfless enough to throw himself on a land mine to save the team.

and I second the request for pics... I'm only remiss that I was not quick with the camera phone when they came spilling out of the taxi... I would be an extortionist in a heartbeat if I had visual documentation.

This would indeed be honorable if there was a team to save. Jumping on 3 landmines with nobody else around is well...

Oh, please don't start a discussion about the date, that's how we ended up not setting it until it was too late for people to travel in from far away places like Canada, in previous years.

Just have it on the third weekend of February again - if we set the firm date now, everyone has enough time to not schedule anything around or during it.

I believe this was agreed to as a standard date and PHX area as well.

Friday Feb. 18, Saturday Feb. 19 and Sunday Feb. 20th, 2010. Let's go for it. Don't forget many folks come in on Wednesday and leave on Monday.

Bio, give us the price... you have the best idea of what is needed and we know it is worth it. I am sure the increase will not be so much more that it will deter those that might be on edge. ATW, can you get the payment place set up again?

I would only mention that this is a HOLIDAY WEEKEND (President's Day).

As a hotelier, we charge higher prices, b/c people have Monday off and take more vacations. The previous weekend is Valentine's Day (also very high rates). But the following 2 weekends are cheap here (Spring Training will affect prices in Phx, tho).

Other dates to keep in mind:

Tue Mar 8 Fat Tuesday
Sun Mar 13 Daylight Savings Time
Sun Mar 20 First Day of Spring

Bio, you may want to ask about rates/avail for a few weekends, and see what they say.

But I agree-- let's do it NOW. if we can get Firesky again, that would be dynamite!

The general consensus two years ago was to set the date for next year (we did) and always keep it at that date. Nice weather - before spring break - easy to plan for - and don't have to have the debate every year.

Works for me.

Except that this year (2010), it wasn't a holiday weekend (President's Day was the week before).

Sonya, are you saying you would prefer it on the exact same weekend, even if the rates are higher?

Or is one week later OK, if we can get it cheaper?

Example of those 2 weekends:

Right now the Firesky is showing $359/night for the weekend of Feb 18-20, 2011, and $249/nt for the next weekend (Feb 25-27)-- about 33% less.

I'm assuming Bio will be able to negotiate better rates-- but I'm also guessing it will be easier for him to get it below $200/nt the following weekend.
