So, I had an interesting idea for a business that I wanted to see if there was a Need for. I figured the easiest way to do a Needs analysis would be to join some online groups in the sector I'm looking at, toss up the idea to people passionate about the topic, and have them offer up some feedback as to whether or not its worth pursuing. Also, I just wanted to talk to other people on the subject because its something that interests me.
Alexa pointed me to the most highly concentrated websites where I could find Like-Minded people -- Google Groups and Yahoo Groups.
Let me tell you something -- if you ever wanted to experience what the butthole of the internet is, you don't need to use Tor to hop on Silkroad. Join Google Groups or Yahoo Groups. After about 5 minutes, I realized my attempts were futile: all the posts from the most active groups in the subject I was interested in were spam bots advertising porn, penis pills, and how using some weird little trick I can make 12 women and a circus midget fall in love with me.
I suppose that makes sense -- I don't really know who uses Yahoo or Google groups anymore. Everything has been shifted to social media -- Twitter, Facebook and Instagram being the big three. The problem with these platforms is that it is INCREDIBLY difficult to have a conversation on them. Twitter is good for "status updates", Instagram is good for pictures. I suppose Facebook Groups would be my next logical choice to put my B2C idea to the masses, organically targetting members and messaging them straight up out of the blue -- I guess thats the next iteration of Door to Door Sales, yeah?
Does anyone else out there have some recommended venues they use when they want to serve up their business idea? Reddit, maybe?
