Interesting how Steve Jobs says, "You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new." Darn, what are we supposed to do then?

Henry Ford has a similar quote: "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses."

You have to keep in mind that these are some of the greatest innovators and business minds of the past couple hundred years. Their goals were/are probably MUCH different than yours.

If you want to be an innovator like Steve Jobs, you have to see the big picture. How are technology and humanity evolving and in what new ways might those two things intersect in the near future? (ex. self-driving cars) That's what you give people.

I like how some entrepreneurs give conflicting advice. For example, Elon Musk says it's okay to put all your eggs in one basket, whereas Warren Buffet has said never put all your eggs in one basket.

But maybe their viewpoints differ because Warren Buffet is an investor, whereas Elon is more of an inventor. Elon was willing to put all his money into Tesla and Space X and go broke even though it may not save either companies.

Fortunes are usually built by putting all your eggs in one basket.

Fortunes are usually maintained by spreading your many eggs in many baskets.
