I was thinking this is indeed an issue with SEMANTICS.
Luck is the wrong word. I was thinking about the word CIRCUMSTANCE (though "probability" is probably even better).
You cannot ignore the circumstances something has come from in my opinion. You don't look it as luck or unlucky. But see how that may have influenced things.

Yes, it's also because the word "luck" is too easily loaded with negative or positive connotations (bad luck or good luck). Chance, randomness, and circumstance are better ways to think about it... but dopes like that YouTube commentator are stuck in thinking in terms of "good" or "bad" luck... you'll notice permanent losers often say things like "I just had no luck", not even good or bad, just none... these failure-minded attitudes can easily be recognized as garbage when you consider it in terms of "good randomness" or "bad randomness" or "no randomness". Then it's seen that random events (such as having a random encounter while getting ice cream ) themselves have no intrinsic "good" or "bad" value, only the value that a human creates from it. As Napoleon Hill said in a simpler way: "Within the seed of every adversity is an equal of greater benefit"... we can also say "within the seed of every ice cream cone is an equal or greater fortune".

I do believe that luck plays some part.

For example:
How come face book exploded while Myspace died out? They both provided same services...

My opinion,
How come I did not mature till I am 27.. but what I found out is that, what made a difference in my life was people I was hanging out with. Before 27 yr old, I was hanging around low self esteem people and when I started hanging around with my successful cousin, who now owns 2 successful IT consulting firms that makes close to 1 million dollars. My mind set changed... and now I am doing much much better than before.

But something still confuses me is that did I just found those low self esteem people due to my luck or stars? I will never know..

Horrible example. Way too many valid reasons why facebook exploded and myspace died out.

luck \ˈlək\ noun

Definition of LUCK

1 : a word chosen by unsuccessful wantrepreneurs to make themselves feel better about themselves by assigning their own non-action to randomness of life

example : "That guy had great luck. If it wasn't for the fact that he decided to visit an ice cream store that day, there is no way he would have then gone on to build a multimillion dollar company. Pass the hookah while I get my xBox live going."

What about before we developed consciousness? When we were that tiny sperm that out swam 600 million other sperms to be here today, is that considered luck? Or did we out work 600 million sperms, therefore we are all born to be winners... and some just lost that winners edge as they grew up? dum dum dum...

Most of us live in modern western cultures with a lot of opportunity. How lucky is it that we weren't born in the slums of Calcutta? Does that make us frauds if we become more successful than people living in those ghettos?

my father always told me:

don't be so selfish and greedy to demand something like luck from the universe, be greatful that you don't have bad luck in terms of health etc. and that's way enough - the rest is up to you, how you work out your life and work hard for your choices. everytime you scream "god, send me some luck" remind yourself that having no bad luck from god is already the gift...

Agreed! The argument MJ got lucky in the dotcom boom is asinine. If you want to hear some silly rhetoric from somebody who got lucky in the dotcom boom, read Bo Peabody's "Lucky or Smart"(Founder of Tripod.com). He basically admits he got lucky timing things so well. If you want something quality, read MJ's book and pay attention to the part where he talks about his success POST dotcom boom. His company was profitable, STAYED profitable through 2002, and then he turned it into a multi million dollar business after he bought it back AFTER the crash. I think he mentions he was almost completely broke after re-buying his company. This essentially means he made it twice.

Proof limos.com was owned before T.J. Clark was CEO:

LIMOS.com Domain Sold for Lump Sum Cash Payment

11/01/99: PHOENIX (AZ): (The Limousine Discussion Forum - Discuss Limo Business And Industry) has announced they have purchased exclusive rights to the domain name

Proof when C.J. Clark started limos.com:

How Limos.com Became a Multimillion-Dollar Business | Entrepreneur.com

In early 2008, he and his team bought the Limos.com URL.

and some more googling will lead to a PR where the founder of Limos.com re-takes ownership over the domain after he sold it.

The OP would rather post accusations than spend 15 seconds on google.

But that's apart of the fraud! I was able to hack into that webpage and change the information to fit the story to my whims. LOL. And my author pseudonym (my penname) yup, that's a fraud too. Because like ya know, best selling authors using a penname is unheard of! LOL x 2.

Sorry man but you're hanging by a thread. Stop while you're ahead.

And for the rest of you, notice how some people are willing to work hard at justifying their failures and fictitious beliefs, but they aren't willing to work on something that actually has value.

The whole 'right place right time' is bullshit. There's opportunity EVERYWHERE. The ones you come across and the one you eventually choose is reliant on the place and time, but the fact that there is, indeed, opportunity, is not.

Bill Gates was one of the few in the world with unlimited access to a computer. His opportunity was in computers. If computers were not available, he would not have started Windows, but I'm convinced that he would have found some other opportunity in some other field (Fastlane or not).

Don't blame your success or lack thereof on place and time. There's opportunity abound. The difficult part is taking the actions (plural) to grab hold of said opportunity.

This is all so stupid.... What's the excuse for this forum? Let me guess, well he had a name already...? Even if someone could lie and have everyone believe them that they sold a big .com ....building something like this forum would STILL be extremely hard, a name would barely even help actually. MJ's traffic out ranks what? like 80-90% of all other websites... yes im sure thats luck. Also the traffic strategy used here is very different than his previous venture, so how do explain that...lucky with different traffic strategies twice? I remember when this forum was slow as hell, if you wrote something, guess who commented first... that wasnt work, that was luck im assuming.... look who still comments right away... all luck lol. If you were semi retired with millions would you sit behind a computer and post on blank forum all day? I doubt it, give credit where it is due damn, all the result of execution, he could have been sitting on a beach but instead worked. Even if this forum didnt make $1 it is a success to me (even though sure it does). So congratulations on your second successful venture... wait and the book.... shit third.

Why does this baffle you and other people? I don't understand why people think that once you have money you don't have time for these "trivial" things. There's no time for MJ to answer phone calls or surf on the internet. That's just a waste of time compared to the other fun stuff he does all day like playing polo, riding in yachts and getting bottle service.

I needed to delete my post because of copyright infrigment :bgh:

Lol... It has been copied into the thread many times. Someone who accuses someone else on the Internet of fraud shouldn't be concerned about copyright laws. This thread just took a turn for the better! :pop:
