There is a kind of obsession that has gripped me for some time. The desire to know everything. Let me explain myself better:when I read something,an economic article for example or a textbook, and there is a passage I don't understand,I persist in trying to understand it,and even if I go past it I am always gripped by the thought of that passage not understood. I don't know if it happens to you as well. How should I deal with it:is it a mindless fixation and should I accept, every now and then, that I don't understand something,or should I persist in understanding everything ?

Happens to me too, sometimes. You are probably trying to do things perfectly (in your life), a bit too perfect. It is good in some cases, because Perfect execution creates strong results (or at least the best reasult you could get). You should not forget the reason you are getting this knowledge and if it is useful knowledge that can bring results. This "perfect disease" can be used as an advantage, but it can also slow you down, depending on the content you consume.

That's how it happens in my case.

A good compromise is to understand only HOW something works, and ignore WHY.

Knowing WHY requires deep knowledge and is for specialists. Often, a proven and accurate answer to the question of "why?" does not exist.

The HOW is practical, the WHY is usually theoretical.

This is the reason the field of economics is very flawed as a science.

Same happens with me too.

I enjoy learning new things. In fact I love it because it makes me feel that I’m not dumb enough to think I’m above it all.

There’s also a novelty in being a noob and looking at references and role models for inspiration. People love a person who fights with grit and sweat to get good at something because they can see themselves(potential self) in your struggles. You give them hope because what if they do what you do? Perhaps they can get the results too…

It’s a little game that I play by myself when I put 1 and 1 together without anyone physically teaching me. It’s liberating to know I don’t have to learn from these so called university experts when I have Google and endless books from amazing authors. Not to mention this forum.

Again, there is no problem with learning and gaining new insights. Only a short sighted fool who is above it all will say there is nothing left to learn.

But of course, when is it enough? What does enough even mean?

It’s enough when you choose to create your own truth and look to verify the knowledge you acquire through applications. Enough means you have the bottom minimum to create some momentum in whatever you want to build. Anything more than enough may become a crutch because you may feel overwhelmed or develop imaginary problems.

That being said, great people have something in common. They don’t cling on to a specific preacher or way of thinking. They consider it with their own truths and don’t pick sides. Picking side is how people sell you stuff you would not buy under sane conditions(a faulty belief system) while dividing and conquer, your mind and bank account.

In application you will see that common knowledge is often time not the truth. The truth lies somewhere between your personal experience and what you learn from these sources.

Your focus should be to understand things that are relevant to your life and goals. If you're obsessed with every single irrelevant thing that you encounter, simply because you encounter it, then you're leading a scripted life, where other people dictate what you do and when you do it.
