New entrepreneurs often lack the clarity of vision to properly execute.
Like any skill, one has to do to become better. And it helps if at first you can follow. Want to swim, watch swimmers, get your lessons and start swimming. Get tips, swim better etc. Same with business.
The purpose of this thread is to answer one question:
Describe them, explain why you were impressed. New entrepreneurs may then be able to borrow the ideas from real success stories (even if they are not your own!) and replicate parts that work for themselves. I'll start:
Last year a young man knocked. I dismissed it as "another annoying human trying to sell me something I don't need!" but I opened the door to dismiss him politely.
I was wrong. I needed that guy and his business. They launched a new Pest Control company and decided to offer discounts if they could do economies of scale on our block. They already signed up a few of my neighbours. He said "look, we can do this discount because we are already here, team is not travelling and wasting time, but you don't get flexibility on time, we come 4x a year on these dates to YOUR house. That's the deal. Do you like it?"
It's about 40% cheaper than what I am used to pay. That got my attention. And I don't need to track on when to call them to book a time, it's automatic. Where do I sign?
Most of the waste in service industry like Pest Control is in travel time. People who work the job don't live anywhere near our neighbourhood. That's why we always paid extra. These guys figured out a way. Their travel time is over an hour to get here, but they beat out competition because they clustered houses and got us on a subscription model. It's brilliant and customers are happy.
Bonus point: the other month, another visitor from this company. In person! They wanted to talk to me about the service. They wanted to thank me for my business. They wanted to know if I'd continue on subscription model. That one extra visit is most memorable. They didn't make me into some random customer they don't give a damn about, they made the effort to come out in person and talk to me. They got me. They got me a long time.
Trust me, these people are running circles around Pest Control competition!

I have a bunch of other examples I'll be sharing later, some great, some bad. But starting with one. This is partly inspired by @MitchC rant on execution from zero to $100MM threads that have no basis in reality. I've love to see more real posts about real businesses.
Have a nice weekend!

Pest Control
For years I'd have a calendar reminder to call my pest control guy. Then book an appointment, and often I'd just get too busy. It was expensive but living next to a mountain, you get all kinds of life migrating towards the house.Last year a young man knocked. I dismissed it as "another annoying human trying to sell me something I don't need!" but I opened the door to dismiss him politely.
