From a web developer to a niche digital agency

    EXECUTION
Hey everyone, It's been some time since I posted here, the Unscripted book kickstarted my solopreneur activities a few years ago. The last 3 years I've ran my small web studio (me as a developer with 2 freelancers that assist me with design and copywriting). A few weeks ago I decided to take a...

Demarco's 10/5/1 Exercise, is it still around? Loved that.

    QUESTION
A few years ago I came upon a future-goal setting exercise by @MJ DeMarco , the 10/5/1, and I printed out a PDF, and I was wondering if I can still find this here, would love to do this exercise with a friend. Thanks

No network? No money? No idea? No education? NO PROBLEM!

    GOLD! IDEA
Hey @IceCreamKid thanks again for this, one question: What's the hook for the interview request? Do they get something in return? Or is it just an ask for their time?

I'm looking for a great thread here that explained how to interview people in your niche

    INTRO
What kind of message do you add to your "brick", a simple invite for a lunch? Nothing more?

    INTRO
I'm going to go for the letter idea, a nicely printed 1/3 page in a nice hard paper, with an invitation for a coffee (or a walk, I like moving when talking).

What do you mean with a brick? As in a literal brick? The building material? :)

It's 2025, I'm going to give this a shot, exploring the experience-based travel niche with my Website/SEO studio in the meanwhile, I already have 2 interviews lined up.

That's it! That's the thread I was looking for, thank you. I didn't realise this is 10 years old. I suppose it's quite timeless, I'm going to give it a shot. Thank you.

I'm looking for a great thread here that explained how to interview people in your niche

    INTRO
It's been a while, but last year I found a thread here, that explained a method of getting interviews with your target niche, it included a form of telling them you would bundle the findings in a report, and include their name in it. I don't remember the exact thread, but I found it a great way...

Talking to people you don't know well, what's in it for them?

    IDEA
I'm wondering, if I'm about to question them about the problems they have, but I first tell them what my solution could be, won't that bias their answers? Would it be okay to mention my project/solution at the end of the interview? What do you think?

Talking to people you don't know well, what's in it for them?

    IDEA
With the essence do you mean the problem it could solve for them? Or what the reason is why I'm interviewing them? Thanks for your post.

Initial market research plan for a SaaS tool, would you add anything?

    IDEA
I have a SaaS idea that I want to validate, before starting to build anything (which is difficult as a developer, it's always itching to get going! But not this time, I want really thorough market research). These are the ideas I got. Initial research Create a list of questions, question about...

    Market Research and Product demand

    MARKETING SAAS / APPS
Thanks for this post, I've been thinking about building a landing page first to gauge interest and even receive payment, but for software, the cycle is longer, so if I start getting leads or paying clients, it could take months before an MVP is released. How would you tackle this for software...

Talking to people you don't know well, what's in it for them?

    IDEA
I'm evaluating the need for a SaaS idea, I've got a few connections that I can talk to, however a broad segment of my target market are people I don't yet know. How does one ask for 10 minutes (I'm keeping to short ) of someone's time, to just have a chat and ask some questions, are people open...

I'm not new, but I understand what needs to be done now

    INTRO
Hi (again) everyone, I subscribed to this forum a year ago after reading Unscripted. I've been a web and web application developer for over 12 years, I'm always working on side projects, or getting new ideas and immediately executing them in code, but it's only now that it clicked, I'm building...

Joining a startup, what are the options?

    SAAS / APPS
Well my main goal at this point is to build websites that are well built, meaning they generate leads, have good SEO and are more then just pretty. I'm thinking of working out an SEO offering with a monthly payment, but I still need to do research on that and figure out what I can do every month...

Joining a startup, what are the options?

    SAAS / APPS
Very good point Andy, thanks for making me think of it like that, my dream is to have an agency that makes beautiful websites in my niche (lifestyle and higher-end design), an agency in which I have designers, developers working for me. So in terms of goals this one single project doesn't mean a...

Joining a startup, what are the options?

    SAAS / APPS
Well once I did the research, wireframe and design phase there's no reason for them to allow me in, they can then use all that information to go to an outsourcing company. Asking for a part, a share of the project instead of billing 10k in research and design costs is more of a win-win...

Joining a startup, what are the options?

    SAAS / APPS
I've been a developer for whole my life, I recently started my own agency, where I'm now starting to outsource work, and focus on sales and growing the business (the dream!). Now an old friend of mine contacted me to ask if I could manage a development team for a new web platform they're...
