Desire to make courses but not an expert in anything

    HOT!
Not sure this will be helpful, but if you are a generalist, that may have its own market as well. Maybe not in the online courses business, but possibly somewhere else?

I've failed at postponing "do what you love"

Hi @daru, Thanks for the suggestion, that's indeed a cool idea. I was actually thinking about revisiting old classics, but re-invent them (not exactly improve them as they are, but more like making new games based on the original ideas/mechanics), as a starting point for commercial games. Some...

    Illustrator with Porsche dreams

    INTRO
Welcome @NicholasCato. I feel quite identified with your story, as I shared some similarities (working on others' projects and not having enough time for mines). It's great that you decided to go for it at 25 instead of much later. Best of luck :)

Path to creating a digital product

    NOTABLE!
I mean rent prices, which last time I checked (around 2-3 years ago) were about 40% lower than in London. But maybe that's changed recently? I agree that beers can be expensive haha. And food even a bit more expensive, as distribution costs are probably higher than in the capital. Bristol was...

Path to creating a digital product

    NOTABLE!
Why not moving to a cheaper city in the UK? That's still moving (which is a pain), but at least you are not moving countries. There are medium size cities, like Bristol, where the cost of renting is about half compared to London, and they are still cities with things to do.

Newbie-Working to move from Slowlane to Fastlane

    SLOWLANE INTRO
Welcome :) As a suggestion, I would wait a bit before reading Unscripted. After reading TMF once, and Unscripted twice, I believe they are books for reading them, thinking a lot about them, and coming back after a few months. They need to grow inside you. I personally found more value doing...

I've failed at postponing "do what you love"

You are right, I didn't know about Agora, I've had a look just now. It looks like one of many possible companies doing the same thing, so it's a good example of what you mention. I totally agree with what you say about marketing. It's true that is not very well used in video games, and, even...

I've failed at postponing "do what you love"

Thanks for your reply. Some numbers about why the market looks quite saturated: close to 8000 games released last year on the most popular PC store, and over 6.000 this year so far. At least it doesn't look like it's going to double again (4.500 in 2016 and 3.000 in 2015), so it's sort of...

I've failed at postponing "do what you love"

I've read both books by MJ, and I fully agree with get rich first, do what you love later. I've spent one long year trying, but I have failed. As a software developer, my original plan was to build SaaS or mobile apps that would solve people's problems. But deep inside, what I wanted to do is...

    I don't care about money

    HOT! MINDSET
This is probably one of the best quotes I've read in this forum. Awesome advice!

Path to creating a digital product

    NOTABLE!
Remember: If you don't feel embarrassed of your first version, you've waited for too long to release it :) I actually did the same a few weeks ago, I left London and came back home with my parents so save money and have all the time needed for working on my projects, it just didn't make sense...

    Building a digital entertainment empire

    EXECUTION
That sounds amazing! I wish you best of luck. Have you considered creating a dev blog to share the progress? This was, to me, one of the keys of the success of Stardew Valley (apart from the immense quality of the game itself). I'm curious about one thing: While I agree with your statement...

    Yet another aspiring unscripted here

    INTRO
Hi all, I’m new in this forum, and I would like to introduce myself. My name is Sergio, from Spain. I’ve been working as a software developer for 8 years, which overall I’ve enjoyed, but the idea of having my own online business or making my own software has always been chasing me, even if I...

    I've Read UNSCRIPTED!

    GOLD! HOT!
Read it. Not as impactful as TMF but I would say it's overall a better book. I read it twice actually, and planning to do a third time in the future.

    I've Read The Millionaire Fastlane!

    GOLD! HOT!
Read the book. It was a slap on my face and an eye opener. Thanks for waking me up :)
