    My magazine venture

    EXECUTION
Thanks, @Dwight Schrute ! So, one lesson I learnt is that the Control Commandment also extends to things other than businesses or platforms. How many times people promised me an interview and then I never heard back... I simply can't rely on them for content for my magazine. Oh well. This...

    My magazine venture

    EXECUTION
Hello Fastlaners, This is not a traditional progress thread, more maybe like a brain dump... Please be kind! So... I love hearing other entrepreneurs' stories, how they started, what they learnt, what their plans are, and I know that others do, too. That's why I started a digital magazine...

    Freelancing & Side-income : 99Designs?

    PEOPLE
I imagine the barrier will be low, but is competition really also low? I hope you can find something worthwhile. I only used 99designs as a customer and found it extremely sad for all the designs that were not chosen, because people wasted a lot of time on them. On the other hand, most designers...

Merchant account. gateway payments, other providers

    WEB/DIGITAL
It really depends what you want to do and what you want to sell to whom... Can't really compare clickbank to amazon, they're so vastly different... Anyway, I would add gumroad to the list, as a way of taking credit card payments. They may not be the cheapest, but they look nice and clean and...

Soooo I wrote my first Ebook.

    PUBLISHING
If you want to get $15+ for your book, you may have a harder time on amazon. Even non-fiction books (self-published) often don't fetch half of that. Of course, the volume of sales could make up for a lower price, but that's up to you! What you could do is turn your book into a 'light' version...

Need Help Picking a Book Cover! (:

    MARKETING
What I meant was not the title, but the lengthy subtitle - It just takes up a lot of space on the cover. I prefer the short version that was posted by Grzegorz. So, slight misunderstanding... I think the subtitle as you wrote it has its place, but rather in the description than on the cover.

I would also suggest a simpler design, especially with less text. People won't read it anyway. Canva is a great tool, and also picmonkey (only if you already have a stock photo).

Lex DeVille's: How to Make $1,000 a Week with no Degree, no Feedback, & no Portfolio.

    GOLD! SIDE HUSTLE
Just wanted to quickly tell you about my experience... Have used oDesk for hiring people before, with very mixed results - But at least I learnt how rotten most applications are. Skimmed through jobs now and then to look for stuff that I could do as freelancer, but got disheartened pretty soon...

Turning a bad website, into an acceptable (hopefully) one

I'm not fond of the green button, and the random red colour in the texts. Also, the "Buying a car" link on the slider leads to no relevant information. To be honest, I would probably concentrate on the selling side of the business and make the steps clearer. As was said before, the old site had...

I have just published my new blog. Would love some FEEDBACK

    PUBLISHING
Congrats on your success! I like your blog, it's neatly designed, has great content and looks nice overall! Because you asked for feedback, there are two things... But this is nit-picking, by no means major things. Firstly, I would advise having a sort of editorial calendar for your posts, just...

    Consulting business - thoughts?

    HOT!
As was said before, if you're trading time for money, then it's not an ideal fastlane business. However, if you - for example - hired someone to teach those group classes for you while you build your following, then branched out to other cities, maybe even turned it into a franchise, then why...

    Hiring/reviewing oDesk writers

    PUBLISHING
Fair enough. I am currently using a mix of things. I am writing stories myself. However, I sometimes find it easier to edit what someone else has written, because I catch myself using the same subplots over and over again, the same motives, that kind of thing. So, for different ideas and a bit...

    Trying Out Self-Publishing

    PUBLISHING
Pretty awesome! I wish I could write that fast/much in a day... My personal best is 3,000 words, and I felt completely drained after that. But then, it was for a full length novel, and I find those much harder than shorter stories. Congrats on your progress so far, keep us posted!

Thanks for that tip! Will definitely check this out, once I'm done editing my oDesk gem... heh

    Hiring/reviewing oDesk writers

    PUBLISHING
I picked oDesk because I had some free credit lying around, so in the end I got my story done very cheaply indeed... What do you suggest then, elance? Or is there something even better? I know that elance writers are supposed to be better quality, but more expensive. Never tried them though...
