    EXECUTION SLOWLANE
Whoa, it's been awhile since I updated this thread or been on these forums. I launched a new product line as a trial in October, limited run, a tea line. It did really well, my first trial sold out in less than 1 hour of the private launch to my Patreons, and within 48 hours overall. I love...

    EXECUTION
If you need help with figuring out the world of talk radio syndication and radio stuff, let me know. I am a co-owner at a radio station and have a syndicated radio show. It's a slow industry, very entrenched, but there's nothing like it. Ironically, I got into it partially because I have had a...

Seeking advice on energy management/risk taking in global pandemic

    MINDSET
I guess, the issue is that none of the normal rules apply right now. I have benefits and a salary in a stable recession-resistant industry - that is actually good for the world (it is genuinely good and important stuff) - and the work itself isn't hard. It's just running SQL queries and doing...

Seeking advice on energy management/risk taking in global pandemic

    MINDSET
I'm on week 14 of working a full-time job doing essential services government contracting (fully remote though for a friends company), 15-20 hours a week managing the finances of a startup radio station (as an executive staff of the nonprofit station and partial owner of the s-corp that runs the...

I know I'm seeing the economic effects but hadn't seen the health care effects in my own community yet. But I asked friends who worked in health care, and they're already seeing effects. These are ICU nurses, people who work through flu seasons every year, a friend that is a doctor who worked...

Also wanted to note that the fact that Chinese workers who were out of work for 2+ months managed to get through this in tact is that their national personal savings rate is 33%, while in the US we're closer to 7% personal savings rate. Feeling extremely grateful that I save about 50-60% of...

I had to lay three people off yesterday due to the fact that our revenue is falling about 25-30% until events are safe and allowed again. But we're lucky, we have diverse revenue sources and a 24/7 signal to reach people in their homes so we should get through this. I'm just going to be...

Yea, also, more and more people take immunosuppressants than ever before because biologicals have developed in the past 20 years. I look like a very healthy 32-year-old - I do double jumps on figure skates, squat 150% of my bodyweight, bike an hour a day - but I also am immunosuppressed and have...

Hey, you only quoted half of what I said. I said "I am unfortunately, American, and therefore stuck with our terrible health insurance system." I didn't say I preferred authoritarian countries. But all other G-20 countries have better health care insurance and delivery systems than the US. 1)...

BUSINESS COVID STUFF: I'm mostly lucky*, in that my income isn't totally halted from this, because I'm in digital/broadcast media. But a lot of my customers/listeners are in service industry and their income has been all but halted. Not to mention, speaking gigs have been completely cancelled...

Well, I identified a need in the market in the midst of C0VlD-19. I have no idea how i'm gonna pull it off considering that I have two day jobs and a weekly show. But, I decided yesterday that someone needs to make a daily podcast/radio show that explains the economic and fiscal policies...

Letting someone go in a crisis/city on lockdown?

    PEOPLE
Yea, she's been doing the thing where she's looking for volunteers (since we're partially a 501c3) to do the work that she can't do - design and such. But it's slow moving and she doesn't really know what she's looking for (and probably because she expects too much out of volunteers. I'm happy...

I said this above but I'll state it again: We're an at-will state, she's a contractor with complete control over her schedule and not an employee, and she's not in a protected class. We're not worried about legal action, just doing right by a member of our community.

We're an at-will state and she's not in a protected class. We're not worried about legal action, just doing right by a member of our community. we could be worried about other staff morale though. We're a small team - 8 staff, 10 contractors - and we're worried about what it looks and feels...

Can you tell I wasn't part of the team when she got hired? (I ran my own business alongside the station for 3 years, and just a few months ago got brought on to help run things). I walked into all this. The org chart and personnel situation was the first priority for me to fix, but it all feels...

Technically we're running 2 out of 3. We're both a 501c3 and a for-profit LLC for FCC reasons. ;) But you make a good point.

Reading the other posts by OP, they're over £200K in debt from a failed business venture, so if there is a pre-nup, I hope it protects their wife's assets.

Is it not unethical to let someone go right now, though? Especially a contractor who will not be able to get unemployment.
