BigCommerce Rest In Peace (Alternatives Re: Price Increase)

    WEB/DIGITAL
There are *dozens* of completely free, open source shopping cart solutions available. If you simply buy a cheap virtual server plan (you can get a minimal, but adequate server w/static IP address for as low as $4/month) you can then: - install Linux for free (ubuntu, fedora, centos, debian...

Software in my industry doing $1M+/mo.

    EXECUTION
Just my $0.02, but I'd say there's got to be far less risky, far more passive ways to park your money and earn a return. You may think you are buying an asset, but might find out one day you purchased a liability.

    Grew a SAAS from 0 to $30,000+ Monthly Revenue within 1 year ($1mm v.), $0 invested

    SAAS / APPS WEB/DIGITAL
IANAL, but I believe the term for this is a letter of intent. It's like the pre-nup version of a business contract, and is afaik enforceable. I've even heard that in some cases you can get funding with a letter of intent in hand if you are going that route (VC or business loan).

Patents are now just a legal arms race that only prohibits innovation and raises entry barriers--and in some markets ultimately harms the consumers.

    EXECUTION
I'm not sure how others will analyze this. But here's my take. 1 - purchasing a business is decidedly an *event*--which violates CENTS. This event is for him the culmination of him doing the work to create wealth in the form of a successful business--he has executed a process getting him to...

Treat Your Customer Like a King | S.U.C.S

    PEOPLE
Let me just toss another anecdote into the SUCS evidence ring. I friend of mine built a multi-million dollar hosting service using SUCS. His requirement for his support call center was that *every* customer call was answered within *3 rings* by a *live person*. No IVR. No hold time. Ever. He...

    Do you use LaTex...

    PUBLISHING
There have been free wysiwyg latex editors for years. Now there are even free, really good, online wysiwyg latex editors. But in all honesty, latex is not that hard to learn, extremely flexible, and well worth the effort. Historically there's only maybe one or two reference books tops that you'd...

    Veganism / Plant-Based Diet

    HEALTH
Again, let me recommend Lierre Keith's book. The argument to go vegetarian based on avoiding mass scale feed lot animal breeding is fallacious. (And if you are vegetarian, please read that sentence carefully--I didn't say anything about whether or not to go vegetarian, the noun is "the argument...

Do you actually have to be passionate in the type of business?

    MINDSET
The book talks about this plenty. You need to be passionate about fulfilling needs in the marketplace to be successful. It doesn't matter if you are passionate about the product/service your business does or not. Being passionate about the *process* of being in business will get you much farther.

    Veganism / Plant-Based Diet

    HEALTH
Possibly one of the best reads about diet in general is "The Vegetarian Myth" by Lierre Keith, a former vegan. She discusses the topic from every angle: politics, ecology, physiology/metabolism, energy, anthropology, and history. Quite often the motives for choosing vegetarianism/veganism come...

Money and Wealth: Zero Sum Game?

    EXECUTION
Go watch the videos I posted previously. They detail the basic history of currency and monetary systems. The world began with barter systems. Then various fiats such as rocks, shells, precious metals, on to government issued coins, tally sticks and paper currencies. Fiat currencies have...

Money and Wealth: Zero Sum Game?

    EXECUTION
Check youtube for the 3-part "money as debt" series--it's a good explanation of the entire process. It *is* a little simplified--but to get the forrest view it is a very good start.

0 - Billionaire Without Creating Anything

    EXECUTION
Perhaps a perfect example of this is Napoleon Hill's recounting of the great US Steel consolidation that Charles Schwab accomplished. He created value for all parties involved by suggesting changes to the industry that would reduce inefficencies and provide a net gain in profits for the parties...

My receptionist has too much free time. What can I have her do?

Sounds like some massive inefficiencies. I highly recommend the book "Maverick" that talks about some unconventional (yet highly effective) ways to streamline business operations--things like don't file papers--just throw them out--saves storage space and time. But regardless, there should be...

My receptionist has too much free time. What can I have her do?

It also depends on how much she's willing to tackle. If she's a go getter, pile it on and see what she can do. If she performs, give her more and more abstract requests and see what she comes up with. If she's not, well, then you may have to spoon feed her tasks.

Money and Wealth: Zero Sum Game?

    EXECUTION
You need to define your system boundaries. If you consider the stock market as a closed system, then it is actually a negative-sum game. Every transaction has a buyer and a seller--one is profiting, one is losing, and the broker and exchange always win by taking transaction fees. The world, as...

My receptionist has too much free time. What can I have her do?

Have her research market opportunities. You could have her survey customers for feedback or competitors for ideas. Educate her if necessary. Turn her into a salesman with a commission incentive on either new clients, upsales, or new market opportunities. Make her know she's valuable.

$500,000 revenue so far... Warning: Protect Your Idea

    IDEA
This most certainly violates E--and smells like MLM, or some form of "system". Sounds like selling an event, not promoting a process.
