What would you tell your 18 or 25 year old self?

    GOLD! MINDSET
That World of Warcraft game becomes a chore and source of stress. Don't bother. Oh, and self publishing will become a thing in a few years. Start writing. Now.

    At the very beginning...

    PUBLISHING
When I write, it's usually 2-3k a day. But I have a demanding day job, and for example I spent today formatting, prepping, and outlining, so I've got nada on the word counter. But, until I start making from books what I make from my day job, it doesn't make sense to quit. It also helps fund...

    {PROGRESS + ACCOUNTABILITY} LAURYN'S RECONSTRUCTION: GETTING TO 50 SHADES OF PAID

    PUBLISHING
If it's something that can improve the story, go for it. It also allowed you to see a gap in your ability, and by going back to fix it you'll better yourself as a writer.

    [PROGRESS THREAD]: Six-figure Fiction

    PUBLISHING
Persistence is the name of the game. My two books are doing so-so, but the feedback has been good, so I'm optimistic about future releases. Just need to keep writing, form my series, and keep going. Every writer has readers and an audience waiting. You just have to find them.

Pssst! Hey, buddy! Need an editor?

    PUBLISHING
Yep. Your work can take bad reviews about the story, etc., but not the editing. That may make people pass on.

The Women of FastLane Virtual Meetup

    MEETUPS
While I don't mind the idea of meeting up with several women, I should note that I'm a guy and am engaged... Ugh, it's like when my mom thought I was going to be a girl before I was born. I can't escape it! :)

Hello from Denver - self publishing success

    GOLD!
I've been considering this for my next book. How painful is it to migrate from Smashwords to D2D?

Nice work! You make my 200 copies sold since October look like child's play :)

Pssst! Hey, buddy! Need an editor?

    PUBLISHING
Yep. Every editor I work with offers a sample edit. If I don't like it, I move on. Copy editors are great to have, at least to me. If I had to rate my time trying to edit my own work versus paying someone to do it, my time and money are better spent writing more words. But some people need...

Pssst! Hey, buddy! Need an editor?

    PUBLISHING
Now I feel I should add my thoughts and process aren't the same as everyone elses. I write novels, and not everyone here does that. I also write in very unforgiving genres. Romance and erotica, if I wrote in those, I'd be more cover focused, and self edit shorter works around 5k-20k. Instead I'm...

Pssst! Hey, buddy! Need an editor?

    PUBLISHING
The more I get into self-publishing, the more I'm accepting there's two parts to this. Writing and publishing. Writing I'm creating the product, publishing I'm selling that product. I want the best, cleanest product I can produce for my ability. I'll pay a copy editor, use beta readers, and...

    Anyone Flipped a Luxury Home?

    REAL ESTATE
I keep an eye on high end houses in my area. It's one of my fastlane motivations to live someplace nice, so when I'm bored I browse ZIllow, etc. And I've noticed homes in that price range may not flip very fast. It could depend on your location, but if you buy one to invest, you may be in it...

Is Self Publishing a fastlane road ?

    EXECUTION
Yep. I've learned that the platform is just as important, if not more so, than your book. Mostly because it will take several books (writing a one hit wonder is rare) to build your reader-base, and then you need to cultivate and nurture your readers. Make sure they can find you. Don't make my...

I Will Reach $10,000 USD monthly in Self-Publishing.

    PUBLISHING
Yes and no. Mine is a definitely "in progress" journey, so I'm hoping to show the steps I take on what will eventually come a profitable venture.

FYI, I'm sharing more personal details in the insiders section, such as marketing and the like. I basically moved my progress thread there.

E-Books aren't Fastlane. You should quit...

    PUBLISHING
Can marketing help? Sure. But you need something to market. And that's books. Not book, but books. Indie publishing is a marathon. I read a post on kboards today that a well known midlist author spent 10k his first year to produce ten books, and make less than 4k. Now with 30 novels he brings...

Vegas Cabbie Finds $300K, Returns It...

    FUNNY
Actually, this made me think of my last cab driver story. Ironically, it was the Vegas trip I took for work training, and instead of partying and gambling, I read TMF. Hmmm, that just dawned on me too... instead of living it up in Vegas, I was studying for my next venture... Anyways. It was on...

I've had nothing but good cab driver experiences in Vegas. Guess I'm the lucky one.
