    Sorry, but for me this sounds very dangerous. My mum was an alcoholic, and the beginning was similar. Saying that watching TV is worse than drinking alcohol sounds like an excuse to me. I think you (and your wife) have a serious problem - one thats simply tolerated in our society.

    You have now to lose something, so your personally risk tolerance goes down. That's OK. You must be able to sleep well at the end of the day. THAT is important. For me, it sounds that you prefer the "save heaven". So, pay down the debt and live your life :-)
